Mulumbu signs new Albion contract
Friday 28th August 2009, 11:39AM BST.
Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has penned a new contract at the Hawthorns less than two months after signing for the club.
The Congo international has landed a one-year extension lead and is now effectively tied to the Baggies until 2012.
Mulumbu only turned last season’s loan from Paris Saint Germain into a £175,000 permanent transfer just seven weeks ago, signing a one-year deal with an option for a second year.
But his excellent start to the new season has convinced head coach Roberto Di Matteo to hand him a new two-year deal, with an option for a third season in the club’s favour.
The Albion boss said: “I’m pleased with how Youssouf has started the season and he is very much part of our plans.
“He’s an exciting, young, holding midfielder who will hopefully keep improving.”

I don’t know who does the negotiating for the Albion but they need a pat on the back!! what with Mulumbu & Dorrans being brought in for a song & we seem to get top dollar for players leaving, is it all down to JP do you think?? This for me is why we won’t be doing a Leeds, Charlton, Southampton, Forest etc etc. Bring on the Blades, it’s always a battle with them.

brilliant news. he was a bargin. gives it 110% everygame too.
well done peace and rdm
on a poorer note what utter rubbish with regards to banning the players signing autographs and stuff. its crazy, just last season football focus was praising us for how fan friendly we are then we do this, i remember when i got my shirt signed by all the players when i was a kid and i would never dream of selling it to make a few bucks!!! fair enough not signing things for a fat dodgey cockney block, but little kids!!!! stupid!!!!

Looks like Beattie’s gone.
A lot of people (including many posters on here) never gave him the time of day, but whenever he played he gave 100%, he never grumbled about not playing first team football and he scored some important goals (Leicester away, Man City home).
I say good luck to the fella, you watch him score against us!!

Hear hear No.6, probably far too early to be even talking about players of the season (no s**t)but this guy has definate potential to be THE player for us this season so long as he steers clear of injury.
I think we need a song for him….theres something for some of us to think of over a few pre-match beers!

Excellent work by our scouts. This kid could go all the way and he seems level headed too. Now we need a nickname for him which ain’t going to be easy. Youssouf could be the equivalent of ‘Joseph’ I suppose so ‘Joey’ or ‘Mully’ off his surname might work for when he gets his next goal. Yes, I like ‘Mully’ best. It could make quite a noise from the BRE and Smerrick ends.
