Molineux expects as Hull visit Wolves
Friday 28th August 2009, 4:00PM BST.
Can Wolves now handle the expectation factor as they steel themselves for the visit of Hull?
It is a match tomorrow which Mick McCarthy’s players and the Molineux faithful will have viewed from the outset as the type of game they can – and arguably must – win.
Now they have to deliver knowing a two-week break for international fixtures will pass so much easier if the points are on the right side of the gain line.
Six from four games would represent a terrific start for McCarthy’s men, four from four would hardly be disastrous. But there would be just a touch of anxiety in the air if they were left on three points tomorrow evening.
The manager said: “Each of the matches have their own characteristics. The opening day was all about the first game back in the Premier League and everything that went with it.
“Then we went to Wigan having not won away for 758 years or whatever and could we get something out of that? And then the Manchester City game was another set of unique characteristics.
“Now comes this one. The lads have proved they can play in the Premier League. Can they go on from here?
“There will be no humdrum fixtures and we simply have to try to eke points out of all of them. If we were going to Hull, they would be expecting to beat us there.
“We have a better chance of beating these teams than we do Manchester United, Liverpool, Spurs or Chelsea. That’s just common sense.
“You should have a better chance in these games than you should against the big six or eight clubs. And we’ve got to try to make an advantage of Molineux and get the result we want.
“We are one point off from being ecstatic after three games. Had we beaten West Ham, got a draw against Wigan and lost to Manchester City, we would be sitting here delighted.
“But we’re only one point away from that total. Six points from four games? I’d be delighted with that.”
Hull’s boom-and-bust guide to Premier League survival last season was compelling viewing for neutrals.
Phil Brown’s side struck a blow for the little man in an electric start before reality and a long, slow decline began which left them teetering on the brink.
McCarthy said: “But Hull stayed up – and that’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter how they did it, when they did it – they stayed up.
“Are they a role model for us? You have to be careful about role models. For years Charlton were every other club’s role model and look where they are now.
“The one thing we want to have in common with Hull, Stoke and Sunderland and the rest is that we stay up. That’s all. But we will have to do it our way.
“I don’t know why Hull’s season went the way it did. I bet Phil doesn’t either. I don’t know why we won all those games at the start of the season, but then had a bad run before we started winning again and took the title. It happens.”
Brown’s team are under attack from the outside with Sunderland boss Steve Bruce confirming he is after their central defender Michael Turner.
He said: “It is difficult to talk about individual players. We have registered an interest in the boy but that’s as far as it’s gone, as I am aware at the moment.”
If that speculation surrounding one of Hull’s key figures gives Wolves one extra per cent of an advantage they will take it, such are the margins for error at this level.
As for their own plans, McCarthy hinted that it will be back to a two-man strike force tomorrow after the five-man midfield served its purpose at Wigan and Manchester City.
Brown watched new striker Jozy Altidore come off the subs bench to inspire Hull to victory over Bolton last week before the teenage American, on a season’s loan from Spanish side Villarreal, marked his first start by claiming a goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 League Cup win over Southend.
He’ll be unleashed on Wolves at some stage tomorrow and Brown warns: “He seems to be unfazed by anything but that’s perhaps down to the assets of a 19-year-old.
“He can handle himself and he found himself up against an experienced team.
“There is a long way to go but I think he can be a real talent.”

This game is all about the 3 points. Nice if we can do it in style, but am expecting a nervy game…
Time to put that special pair of lucky pants on, guys!

Can’t see you singing at the end of the season pal.
If spending money was music you 3 would be tone deaf!!!!

For the first time ever I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for an Albion win on Saturday.
Nancy Reeve, the old lady who was mugged in West Bromwich is a massive Baggies fan, I’m sure a win would cheer her up and help her recovery.
Meanwhile, I hope her attacker got caught inbetween the West Ham and Millwall fans the other night….

I hate games like Hull because they are pressure games – we are expected to get something out of it. Last weekend against Man City I felt no pressure because we expected to get nothing from the game and very nearly did. Its imperative we dont lose tomorrow, if we do we are looking at a long, hard season even at this early stage.
Come on Mick lets have Beckford and Ledley on board before the 1st and we are looking at 12th place!!!

Yes tonights game (well in Aussie anyway) will be a real measuring stick, any thing less than a draw, I don’t think will go down too well.
Just as long as the team plays well as a unit, will be more inportant. Squad depth I can see is going to be an issue later in the season – put is that really any different to other clubs fighting in this small relegation mini league that we are playing in. (Burnley/Portsmouth/Hull etc)
I’m still a firm believer that we will stay up, in the games I have seen we have not looked bad, sure the strikers haven’t put their chances away – but neither did Man City when we could have got a real good old fashioned arse kicking.
Fan need to keep the faith – support the team in everything they do – when things are looking down, get their spirits up and back on track.
Because if you don’t you are only making your worst fairs become reality by your own actions.
So lads get out there and do your best – that is all I ever ask.

I’d love to see that smug smile wiped off phil Brown’s face tomorrow. All that singing and posturing when they stayed up – Come on Wolves, we can do it. We’ll stay up our way and push on from there. Come on you Wolves!

Jozy Altidore will be a threat to the Wolves defence. He had played well in the USA’s Conferation Cup competition in South Africa recently and finding his foot in the Premier league. It will be the peril of the team if they let their guards down.
Wolves will had to grind a favourable result against Hull, built-up their confidence and hunger for the challenges for the rest of the season.
It is imperative that we established a foothold in the Premier league and there onwards for greater glory.
Forward the Wolves. 1-0 to the Wolves.

If Morgan had delivered his promises, we wouldn’t be worrying about having to beat Hull. But no, this is Wolves, do everything on the cheap and hope that it all comes good.Didn’t work on 03, won;t work in 10 either. Don;t forget we got substantial income for promotion, season ticket sales, sponsorship, merchandise… and what exactly ahve we spent and bought? Zubar, Surman and Halford are average squad players, Doyle is injury prone ,and Mancienne isn’t ours. Why teh heck dod we waste money on giving Collins a 4 years deal? Baffling and outrageous. Tomorrow will be a draw, not good enough, and hello Mr Relgation Battle…..AGAIN!!!

We are not the complete deal yet, we still need to sign another striker and maybe someone to give Henry a bit of competition. Hope I am smiling at quarter to five.

I reserve any comment about the purchase of players until after the cut-off point. There’s alway the chance that we might scoop a couple of right signings by then.
It is clear to all that our strength in depth is not in depth! That’s where we are prone to poor performance and the ultimate poor results.
I believe our first 11 and a couple of subs will be enough to stave off relegation, but beyond 13 or so players that we have that make up our first 11, we will struggle.
It seems to me that, with the pressure on players to be fitter, quicker and more alert, borne out of the greedy financial side of the game,we will always have 2 or 3 sidelined with injuries.
With many players at Wolves only bit-part first team members, we will struggle greatly if strength is not added in the next couple of days.
Fingers crossed…….. 0-0 today is my realistic prediction.

No 4 JIWAL
Go back to Sandwell. Criticise constructively when we ACTUALLY loose. Not before. Do you think that comments like this help? Perhaps you intended to lower the teams moralle?
We are all nervous about the game and as some other posts say, this is a pressure game which means it could go either way.
However, save these sorts of comments until the end of the season.

I had hoped that we had heard the last of Jiwal the doom monger. On forums he did nothing but criticise everything and everyone. He does not know the meaning of true support for a team. as RLW says, go and support Sandwell we do not need you. Wolves WILL survive this year, and 2-1 to us today.

Must continue from where we finished last Saturday.
Must sign some Quality before Tuesday deadline,or
yet again the fans have been mugged and robbed
by Moxey & co. Can we do them under the Trades description act? Will win today 2-0 and send the Jumped up Brown packing.

Well, after the Man City game we know that we were able to give them a good game, and I reckon that we could fight for a top 10 position.
However we have to win convincingly today and I hope that Mick picks the right players and uses an attacking formation.
WE ARE THE WOLVES!
