Ince calls for focus from youngsters

Tuesday 25th August 2009, 10:51AM BST.

clayton-inceWalsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince has called for focus from the Saddlers’ youngsters – as he believes their inexperience is costing the team.

Chris Hutchings’ men conceded two goals for the fourth game in a row in their 2-0 reverse at Charlton on Saturday after leaks against Accrington, Southend and Leeds.

Ince is desperate to find the root of the problem and believes it’s because the team lacks experience.

He said: “It’s something the manager is looking in to and us as players as well. It’s a young team and that happens when you have young players, they switch off too easily.

“Us senior guys have to tell the youngsters that in football you can’t switch off, even in the 95th minute.

“With a young team it’s expected they’re going to switch off, but we’re in the early part of the season. In the later part of the season they’ll be developing into great players.”

The 37-year-old highlighted last season’s problems, when the Saddlers conceded late goals, as something they must learn from.

He said: “Last season in about 10 to 12 games we lost in the last minute or the last five minutes.

“We could have had the points and been in the play-offs – those are things we have to learn from.”
