Farrell not ready for Harriers bow

Tuesday 25th August 2009, 8:45AM BST.

aaron-farrellKidderminster Harriers will not risk a return for Aaron Farrell in the Bank Holiday double-header despite the striker’s return to training.

The 23-year-old has yet to make his competitive debut for the club since signing from Sutton Coldfield Town in the summer, and has only just rejoined the squad after a hamstring injury.

In his absence, Harriers boss Mark Yates has signed Robbie Matthews from Salisbury as another forward option, but he to sat out Saturday’s 3-1 win at Grays with hamstring trouble.

The manager went with just Matthew Barnes-Homer as the lone front-man in his absence, although Matthews is expected back for Saturday’s visit of Altrincham.

But Farrell will not be in the squad, nor will he be included in Bank Holiday Monday’s trip to promoted Tamworth.

It’s more likely he will come back into contention against Eastbourne at Aggborough on Saturday week.

Yates said: “Aaron is back training but I don’t think he will be ready to come back into the squad at the weekend. It’s looking more like he will come into contention when we play Eastbourne. We don’t want to rush him, he has already been out for a couple of weeks.

“He will be fit and ready when he is fit and ready, there is no pressure for him to rush back. I am sure Aaron is dying to return, but it’s important that when he does comes back he stays fit, not in and out of the treatment room.

“It’s not a problem and he is doing OK.”
