Bednar set to return to action

Tuesday 25th August 2009, 10:56AM BST.

ALBION 20 SL SL 22Roman Bednar will return in Albion colours with a promise from team-mate Robert Koren that he has the squad’s full support to help him re-launch his Hawthorns career.

The striker is expected to be named in the squad to face Rotherham at home in the Carling Cup tomorrow night and could get his first taste of action since returning from his drugs ban.

Koren insists the whole Baggies side will be behind the Czech Republic international.

The midfielder said: “We all know what Roman will do on the field and that’s the most important thing. We are just focused on doing everything to come back into the team and to be successful for himself too.

“What happens in his private life is his business. Two years ago we had a lot of problems with forwards, when Kevin Phillips and some other strikers were injured.

“Roman stepped up for us then, did really well and scored a lot of goals. He scored a couple last year too, so we know he can add goals.

“Hopefully he can put his mind together, be focused, concentrated on the field and, of course, the rest of the team need to help him to do well in training.

“After that hopefully he will get a chance to play and score goals.”

Koren’s ankle injury is expected to keep him out tomorrow, but the Slovenia international has urged his team-mates to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season.

He said: “We all knew it was really important to start the season well,. Our schedule for the games was good and we got the points that we wanted too, which is really good for our confidence.

“But we need to be concentrated on every game. It’s a long season and there are still more than 40 games, so there is nothing done yet.

“The league has just started so we need to be concentrated, focused on the next games and show that in the end of the season we will have enough points to go back up.”

Good Luck Roman. We’ve all made mistakes in life – the measure of a man is how he responds to them. I’m sure Roman will be giving his all tonight and he deserves nothing more than our full support.

Mmm – Sorry! overexcited and to used to watching us play on a Tuesday.
Still we should support him all the way. Clearly the Baggies must see some sence of remorse and regret in him – and determination to put it right – they dismissed Nicolson and Holt when they brought the name of the club into disrepute – they would not have hesitated to get rid of Bednar if they thought it could happen again.

When I was a kid, (about 400 years ago), they talked of giving you either gas or cocaine at the dentist. Anybody know how true this is because I was never any trouble to go even though the drills were SLOW and 1/4 inch diameter? In fact, when the nurse gave us the papers to get signed by parents, I used to sign my own in case they said no.

    The Real Bully Hoo.

I noticed on another thread that Warren mentioned the amount of criticism young Cummings has received. I agree with him. As Warren said, this is a atep up for the lad and while he’s made mistakes, he seems very confident, he is also blessed with the pace to get him out of trouble. His critics seem to miss the fact that he virtually drove up the motorway and played two games within a couple of days of arriving with team mates he hadn’t met before.
What also impressed me was the lads attitude in the interview he gave. No ‘big time Charlie’ “I see this as a step in my career.” He said he wanted to prove himself here and would like to sign full time. Quite a change in the ‘me me me world’ of modern footballers, especially one from a top London club.
Hope we get to keep him. I see great promise.
