Wolves’ men-in-waiting set for game
Monday 24th August 2009, 9:22AM BST.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy will turn to his men-in-waiting when the club launch their Carling Cup campaign against Swindon at Molineux.
After last week’s three-game burst at the start of the Premier League programme, there will be rest and recuperation for the majority of the players in action so far as others get a first chance of the competitive campaign.
Record signing Kevin Doyle heads the contenders for action against the League One outfit but McCarthy also name-checked goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, George Elokobi, Andrew Surman, Dave Jones, Christophe Berra, Sam Vokes and Ronald Zubar as men in urgent need of game time.
The manager said: “They’ve all got every chance of starting. They are all first team players who have not started yet and need the game.
“They need a chance. I will be changing the team out of necessity in some areas, as well as to give one or two a game and give others a break, but we’ve got a squad of first team players and some of them need to play.”
The match will come too soon for both Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Foley – but there was a hint from the Wolves boss today that his top scorer would be in with a chance of facing Hull on Saturday.
Foley’s comeback is more likely to get underway after the international break.
