Monday 24th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A teenager impaled his wrist on a spiked railing after falling from the roof of a shop in Norton Canes.
The 19-year-old was said to have partially severed his hand after slipping off a plastic drainpipe at the Co-op on Brownhills Road, at around 6.50pm on Saturday. It is not clear what he was doing on the roof.
The victim was flown by air ambulance to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
He was discharged yesterday morning.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said: “An ambulance crew and the air ambulance were dispatched after reports of a man in his late teens suffering a severe injury to his hand and he was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital.”
Robin Smith, control centre manager for Staffordshire Police, said: “It is unclear what the man was doing on the roof but he fell off a plastic drainpipe.”
