Jara set to complete Albion move

Monday 24th August 2009, 10:58AM BST.

gonzalo-jaraGonzalo Jara is near to completing his move to Albion – with the club keen to sign another defender before the transfer deadline.

The Chile international is in the West Midlands hoping to tie up personal terms on his £1.4million switch from Santiago club Colo Colo.

But Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo has still not finished strengthening his back-line, with the Italian targeting a commanding centre-back in the final week of the transfer window.

Romania international Gabriel Tamas is one player being considered, but reports in Eastern Europe that a deal has been done are wide of the mark.

Albion enquired about loaning the 24-year-old Auxerre player, but a deal is unlikely to happen as the French club are demanding a cash transfer.

That would be complex and expensive as any buyer might also be required to agree a deal with Dinamo Bucharest, where Tamas is currently on loan.

But the deal to bring Jara to the Hawthorns is almost complete, after the 23-year-old spent the weekend in England.

The 23-year-old watched the Baggies’ 2-0 win over Ipswich on Saturday and met officials after the game before opening talks on personal terms. He is due to complete a medical early this week.

Jonathan Greening’s move from Albion to Fulham is also due to be rubber-stamped today.

Looks a good signing – versatile across the back, international experience and still young.

Good to see RDM addressing the issues and not just collecting fancy midfielders…..

Barney & Meite surplus to requirements ?

I wonder if the club are trying to move them on £5 million plus, not sure we would get anything like that for them now, even given JP`s astonishing and now legendary negotiating nous.

Nedball, you and me both buddy.

Baggiessss, no excuse. you built up my hopes only to dash them. you’ve scarred me.

…but imagine them two up front again, it’d be back to ‘the most feared strike force outside the Prem’ mode during the Rason Joberts and ‘He whose name we don’t speak of’ days.

We paid £3ml for Barnett and £2ml for Meite are
they to be offloaded ? Someone rated Barnett a
young potential star to pay that sort of dosh
Meite I dont rate. JP a top negotiator on selling
who identifies recruits Valero the worst of all.
Hows Clem and Morrison progressing ? Seems strange
the interest in defenders Olssen is a clone of
John Wile theyre both tenacious defenders he ought
    to be capt.

We have got the third best starting 11 in this league so we do need to strengthen the squad. Borough and Necastle will go up automatically and we will have the lottery of the play-offs. I cant see Morrison playing for us again he handed in a transfer request before the season started and now Greening has left too I am a little concerned of us not being able to keep posession.

    A simple answer A, B, or C please

    A) You are the most negative baggies fan EVER.

    B) You have no idea what you are talking about.

    And my guess
    C) You are just another sad dingle who is more preoccupied with us than your own lot.

16 – when did Morrison hand in a request ???

All I remember is him saying he was staying…. think you have got a bit mixed up with all that negativity.

Who (other than you) says we have the third best squad ?? I happen to think we are a match for either of those 2 clubs – and newcastle are still seeling their best players.

Either you one of those who moans aboput everything – or is it more Shenanigans ?????

Who reckons post 16 is Shadrag? Judging by some of the spelling, I would suggest it is.

I’m excited about the signing of Jara, looks good and hopefully we’ll get this Romanian lad too. As far as performances go, having watched the 2 home games I would suggest that whilst we are not the finished article yet, it’s good to be finding out where we need to improve whilst winning matches.

Also, I’m delighted that Bednar is going to be involved tomorrow night – he’s been an idiot but everyone deserves a second chance. It’s good to see that certain people that wanted him out of the club, are in the minority – well judging by the chants last Saturday.
