Charity call on dream trip

Monday 24th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.

A Staffordshire charity is calling for businesses to help make dreams come true for a group of children with life-limiting illnesses, by encouraging their staff to volunteer for a trip to DisneyWorld in the USA.

The Caudwell Children charity will be taking up to 25 children and their families to the Florida theme parks for seven days in November as part of their annual destination dreams campaign, and are looking for volunteers to support families during the trip.

The carefully planned trip is specifically designed for children with a high medical dependency, which often makes any travel impossible. A team of charity staff, paramedics and doctors will join the successful volunteers to assist families to ensure they have a respite from the stresses of constant care, create some happy memories and potentially aid the children’s health.

The volunteers will be required to assist families around the parks, help support siblings, distribute information to families and act as the face of the charity throughout the trip.

Individuals will not be required to carry out personal care for the children and no medical training is required. Trudi Beswick, chief executive of Caudwell Children, said “The destination dreams programme offers volunteers a unique experience.

“It is often seen by companies as a great way to boost staff motivation and confidence.

“Without the annual support we have received from staff at companies our destination dreams programme would simply not be able to go ahead.

To date Caudwell Children has donated over £10 million to thousands of children with 160 medical conditions.

The trip will take place from Monday November 9 to Monday November 16.
