Harper urged to join Wolves

Saturday 22nd August 2009, 11:50AM BST.

Kevin DoyleRecord signing Kevin Doyle has told James Harper to join the Wolves revolution.

The £6.5m man – back in the squad for today’s showdown at Manchester City following a hernia problem – wants his former Reading team-mate on board after Wolves boss Mick McCarthy agreed a £2m fee for the mobile midfielder earlier this month. McCarthy is also closing in on Stoke’s Amdy Faye.

Doyle played with Harper for four years at the Madejski Stadium and believes  the 28-year-old would be strengthen Wolves’ midfield.

“He’s asked me about the club and I can only say good things to him,” said Doyle.

“You can’t ask for a better training ground or better facilities, there’s no reason for anyone to turn down Wolves.I’ve no idea what’s happening, but it would be nice to have him here.”

Doyle believes signing Harper would only boost Wolves’ chances of survival.

“I think he’d be an asset for any Premier League team,” said the Republic of Ireland international.

“We’ve got very good midfielders here, but he’s a very good player and he’d add to an already very competitive midfield.

“He played very well when we were in the Premier League with Reading and if we did sign him, he’d add more experience.

“He’s an all-rounder, he can dig in and he can pass it and score goals.”

Meanwhile, Doyle is fit to play some part of today’s clash at City, which would be his competitive debut.

“I should be involved,” he said.“It’s been the plan for the last week that I’ll be involved in some way.”
