New charges for parking in town

Saturday 15th August 2009, 10:10AM BST.

Drivers in Walsall will pay 60p an hour to park in the town on Sundays, it has been revealed.

The Sunday parking charges have finally been announced, as Walsall Council looks to claw back millions of pounds over three years.

Shoppers will be charged 60p an hour and £3 for all day.

Council chiefs say the charge, which comes into force on September 7, is the cheapest in the borough.

I’m moving out, no really I actually am and parking is the reason. As a resident I’d have to pay these charges 350+ days a year, or face the threat of a warden ticketing my car and I live here! It’s the long stays that have seen the biggest increases. I’m sorry but this is a like a second council tax for me, a season ticket is in the region of £800. It’s just scandalous and no way to win support from your locals.

How ridiculous are Walsall Council? They justify this by saying the charges are the ‘cheapest in the borough’, well of course they are the cheapest in Walsall!

I think the point is that they are more expensive than OTHER towns and will therefore be another nail in Walsall’s coffin, along with the lack of cultural and leisure facilities, run-down environment, lunatic transport system etc etc

Under the European controlled West Midlands ‘regional framework’ Walsall is being deliberately held back and downsized to become a suburb of Birmingham. If people stop visiting Walsall the council will have successfully done its job.

As voting at the ballot box seems to make no difference: whoever we get in rips us off, then perhaps we should voye with our feet. Don’t go there. Take our buisness and taxes elsewhere.
