TV’s Blake faces jail and end of career
Tuesday 4th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.
BBC presenter Ashley Blake faces jail and his career was in ruins today after a jury found him guilty of wounding a teenager and lying to police.
The newsreader already has a string of previous convictions, including theft and handling stolen goods, it was revealed following his trial.
He was found guilty of attacking 17-year-old Greg Jones with a wooden pole, and of attempting to pervert the course of justice for throwing the weapon away to hide it from police.
It happened after a fracas outside his former bar, The Place 2B, in Sutton Coldfield, on January 25.
It was revealed in court yesterday that Blake had previous convictions which included two counts of theft in 1986, three more counts of theft in 1987, handling stolen goods in 1988 as well altering documents, driving while disqualified and using a false instrument in 1993. None resulted in custodial sentences.
Judge Peter Carr warned him prison was the most likely sentence this time.
“The jury have convicted you of a serious offence that involves wounding a young man,” he said.
“The almost inevitable outcome for a case such as this is a prison sentence and I warn you that is the most likely outcome.”
