Our Man in Malaga’s Daily Diary

Friday 31st July 2009, 9:31AM BST.

villacrest1.jpgVilla correspondent Brendan McLoughlin brings you his daily diary from the Peace Cup in Malaga – starring the king of clobber Nigel Reo-Coker and Sandra Bullock’s double.

Brad Guzan had double cause to celebrate this week after twice putting one over Villa goalkeeping rival Brad Friedel.

Not only was he selected ahead of his American compatriot for Wednesday’s Peace Cup win over Atlante, he revealed Friedel was among the players who had no answer to him on the golf course.

Guzan said: “I don’t like to brag or anything, but I did shoot the best round of my life. It was an 84 which wasn’t too good but I play off 18.

“Some of the boys are telling me it’s got to be lower now that I’ve shot an 84. In our group of myself, Freddie Bouma, Brad Friedel and Elliot Parish I walked away with it.

“But I don’t want to lose my crown with a re-match, I’ll quit while I’m ahead!”

Now his career has taken in some of Europe’s most stylish cities, but that hasn’t stopped striker John Carew being labelled Villa’s worst-dressed player.

So reckons the claret and blues’ king of clobber Nigel Reo-Coker, who had no hesitation putting the forward foot of the table for fashion faux pas.

The midfielder said: “It’s John Carew. He has no style. He has some of the worst gear I have ever seen in my life!

“And this is a man who has been fortunate to travel around some of Europe’s major cities – Rome, Valencia, Lyon – he has definitely not educated himself!

“What if he reads this? He can read it in black and white, colour, whatever he likes. It’s a fact.”

Villa’s staff have found their very own Miss Congeniality at the club’s hotel this week.

Members of the media department almost choked on their corn flakes when they mistook waitress Helena for Sandra Bullock.

And they’re not the first.

It turns out the Portuguese beauty has approached lookalike agencies in America, after regularly being likened to the Hollywood star.

But despite all the compliments she still won’t be rooting for Villa tonight as she’s a Porto fan.
