Injured Surman set for Wolves return
Friday 31st July 2009, 9:12AM BST.
Wolves midfielder Andrew Surman is hoping to make his comeback from an ankle injury in the pre-season friendly at Sean Driscoll’s Doncaster.
The £1.2m summer signing from Southampton has missed the last two friendlies, after going down in the game against Walsall when he scored the only goal.
Surman has returned to full training and is hoping to play some part at the Keepmoat Stadium.
He said: “I had a kick on my ankle in the Walsall game, which seemed pretty innocuous at the time.
“I tried to run it off but it got worse and swelled up quite a lot. I’ve got a bit of bone bruising so it’s been frustrating, because the medical staff and myself thought it only be a couple of days.
“But I did a bit yesterday, so hopefully I’ll join in today and fingers crossed, I’ll be fit for the game.”
Surman admits he is still experiencing some discomfort, but believes he can play through the pain barrier.
He said: “It’s still sore but I don’t mind playing through pain. But you don’t want to play unless you can give it 100 per cent.”
