Ince may start as second-choice

Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince admits he might start the season as the second-choice after backing Rene Gilmartin to replace him.
The Irish shot-stopper has played understudy to goalkeeper Ince, but started the first two pre-season games and will feature in tomorrow’s final friendly at Hereford.
Now Ince, who turned 37 this month, concedes Saddlers boss Chris Hutchings may hand the 22-year-old the chance to establish himself as first choice.
The veteran keeper said: “The manager is looking for young players to energise the team and the older players are just there to support them, to pass on the knowledge to the younger ones.
“I am a little bit behind, but Rene has been working hard and pushing from early on. He has nothing to feel guilty about, that is just part of the game.”

Yep, it’s 1st April, pigs are flying and the sky in pink. There is no way Gilmartin is good enough to be first choice for Pelsall Villa (with all due respect)

please no , don’t do it !!

Gosh I hope not.

Absolutely no chance. Ince is far superior to Gilmartin who is not up to League football standard

I`ve seen every game Rene has played for us and not one of these games did he ever convince me that he would make a 1st choice league club gk.Generally a gk commands his 6yd area Rene has never done this.

Think we’re all united on this one – it has to be Clayton. Rene has only just about cemented his place as number 2 keeper.

Gilmartin is not at a high enough standard to play in goal for Walsall…Ince is still number one.

put mick kearnes in rather than him.
