Albion refute Odonkor claim of move

david-odonkorAlbion have refuted suggestions they have made a move for Real Betis’ Germany international winger David Odonkor.

The player has claimed that the Baggies are leading the race to sign him and even suggested a deal could be done in the next few days.

But the Express & Star understands the move will not take place. Although Albion asked about the 25-year-old, they have decided not to pursue their interest.

The Spanish club paid Borussia Dortmund around £5million for Odonkor, immediately after he impressed in the 2006 World Cup.

But he has played just 40 times in La Liga, largely due to a series of knee problems.

Odonkor is now widely expected to leave Betis before the close of the transfer window, despite being under contract until 2011.
