Cox promises goals to Albion fans
Thursday 30th July 2009, 11:28AM BST.
Albion summer signing Simon Cox has assured the fans he will find his scoring touch as he prepares to kick off the Championship season.
The former Swindon hot-shot is playing through the pain in a bid to find his first Albion goal and insisted he is not concerned by his goalless pre-season.
Cox has not scored since moving from Swindon for £1.5million, but the 22-year-old has been troubled by a niggling ankle injury.
He said: “I’ve still got the injury but I’m trying to play on, as the medical staff have said that hopefully it should go away.
“I don’t know if it’s a muscle injury or a kick. All I remember is turning my ankle a bit during my medical and the hard ground in Slovenia probably pushed me over the edge.
“It’s just about getting that first goal. Once I’ve got that, I can have a decent season.”

2 Pete Tong
Supporter (noun)- a person, or thing that supports.
One of the characteristics of Albion supporters is our immense pride in our team, an ability to support our team at the lowest of ebbs, the fact we’re so fanatical. I don’t live in the Midlands anymore, but so many people I speak to about football up here say “I used to know a West Brom fan, he was obsessed with them”, or “really good supporters West Brom”.
Circumstances gave us these characteristics, whether they be to do with such a significant proportion of our supporters being from a manufacturing working-class background, the fact West Bromwich is such a small town and we have such a proud history. I don’t know what it is, but it exists.
Every time I read your posts, you slate our supporters for being this way, but it’ll never change. If you don’t like it, why not go and support a team whose fans fit in with your idealisms, who have more cynical, aggressive supporters who berate their own team and demand success? There’s one only down the road, you’d fit in perfectly……

2 – we have a go at you cos your another dingle in disguise…. jog on.
Simon Cox has the potential to become a great striker – but this season will be huge for him. If he does score 15/20 goals he will be playing up front in the prem the following year – if he scores 10 or less he might just be going back down the leagues.

7 Yes I agree, sounds like he was reading from the same after match script he used every week down here.

Here we go again, wherever its coming from, the media, the fans, the guy has been with us a few weeks and not played a meaningful game for us, yet he’s under pressure already. Yes, it’s great to see the young lad has confidence in himself, he’ll need it to cope with the expectation level from some sources. The minimum number of goals I’ve seen expected from him this season is 15. My god, he was bought as a squad player, to have on the bench, not an automatic starter, if we expect 15 from him, does that mean if Moore doesnt score 30, this season will be classed as a disappointment. Get real some of you, give the lad a chance to get to know his team mates names let alone how they play.

15 – Good point….if he went to the press and said ‘So sorry, but I think I’m rubbish and will struggle to score at all this season.’ I think he’d be back at Swindon before he realised it!!

18 – Living in South africa I don’t always understand the animosity between West Brom and Wolves…you helped me understand it better!!!
Next season, West Brom in the Premiership and Wolves…well as we would say here…”ag shame!!!”
19 – You are fortunate to be able to see them live, we just get them on TV, though this season it will mainly be highlights (of which there will be many I’m sure!!!)
18 – If I were you, I’d be more worried about those season tickets not being sold. Perhaps they’re worried about relegation too!!

Sir Bobby Robson has passed away today.
God bless you Bobby.

Bobby Robson – a real “football” man – loved the game and was always honest and true.
I read his book and I’m full of admiration for the way he approached the game, both as a player (and for those who don’t know – he was a Baggies player) and as a club and international manager.
RIP Bobby – too few like you left now.

27,real shame another gentleman of football leaves us,fitting really that our first game is against newcastle both sets of fans will be able to pay there respects to this great man,RIP sir bobby.
We’ve lost a proper football bloke and there aren’t enough of them left. Too many spivs running the game now. I suppose only Cyril on here is old enough to have seen him play for us but you only had to hear the man talk about the game to realise how much he will be missed.
I don’t know if you’ll see this anyway. All my posts are being flushed down the E&S toilet. I saw Bobby at all the home matches of course and some away. He began as an inside forward, (second striker) and then was moved back to midfield as a ‘halfback’. Brilliant reader of the game and played in a superb Albion team too. RIP Bob.
