Young Wolves too quiet for Ince

Wednesday 29th July 2009, 10:54AM BST.

MK DONS V WOLVES 3 GD 28Former captain Paul Ince has warned Wolves they are “too quiet” for the Premier League and need more experienced players.

He celebrated his return as Milton Keynes Dons boss by beating his old side 1-0 in a friendly last night.

Ince, whose renowned leadership skills helped lead Wolves into the Premier League in 2003, believes his former club could still do with a bigger vocal presence on the pitch.

He said: “I think Wolves are a quiet team and sometimes you need experience.

“Sometimes, it’s not all about ‘legs’ – we had Ugo Ehiogu playing for us last night and he gives us so much experience. He leads the team and is vocal.”

Ince revealed the lack of investment in the squad the last time Wolves went up still hurts him.

He said: “Staying in the Premier League is all about investment and, during my time, I felt we didn’t invest one iota.

“But it was only with four games to go that we were actually relegated. I think, with the right investment, we’d have stayed up and would have still been there.

“It did and still does hurt me. The likes of myself and Alex Rae weren’t getting any younger, but just to play in the Premier League at 35 and 36 was fantastic.

“I was disappointed with the club for not investing when we should have, and that the players we did buy weren’t really the type of people to keep us in the Premier League.

“But I was so pleased they got promoted last season. The club and the fans deserve it.”
