Roberts plays full game in friendly
Wednesday 29th July 2009, 9:15AM BST.
Stephen Roberts completed his first 90 minutes since November as Walsall beat Bristol City 2-1 this morning.
The defender, who has been out with knee and back injuries for eight months, play in the Saddlers’ behind-closed-doors friendly with the Robins.
David Clarkson put the hosts ahead before Alex Nicholls and Troy Deeney netted.
Goalkeeper Clayton Ince saved a second half penalty for the visitors.
Walsall manager Chris Hutchings rated the workout as a worthwhile experience.
He said: “The big thing was being able to get 90 minutes under the belt of people like Stephen Roberts, so all in all it was a very useful work-out for us.
“It was a good all-round performance. We played with a pleasing shape and there was a good tempo to the game, despite the conditions.”
