Kightly set to miss season start
Wednesday 29th July 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Wolves winger Michael Kightly is set to miss the start of the Premier League season after suffering a reaction to his injured foot.
The 23-year-old had planned to be fully fit for the big kick-off against West Ham on August 15, but – with just 17 days before the season starts – manager Mick McCarthy admits the curtain-raiser has come too soon for the England Under-21 international.
Kightly, who broke his metatarsal in mid-March, failed to make the squad for last night’s 1-0 defeat at MK Dons after making a 26-minute comeback against Port Vale a week ago, before playing half of the Bristol City friendly on Saturday.
McCarthy said: “I think to target the first game of the season was really a bit premature and ambitious.
“So we’ve just got to make sure we take that goal away and allow him to get fit, so we can have him back 100 per cent. He’s finding it difficult to get back to full tilt.
“If he’s not at full tilt, there’s no chance he can play really – certainly not going into the Premier League.
“Sometimes last season he came back at 75-80 per cent fit and he was OK to play. But there’s no chance he’s going to do that again, so we really need to get him fully fit.”
Kightly broke his metatarsal in a friendly in mid-March and has been spared some of the pre-season sessions, as the medical staff nurse him back to full fitness.
Head of medical Steve Kemp said: “This combination of injuries to right hip surgery and left foot surgery made the planning of his rehabilitation very difficult.
“Michael has picked up minor niggles. Now our focus will be on addressing these and concentrating on his strength and control.
“We’d like to think he’ll return to training in a couple of weeks, after training with fitness coach Tony Daley.
“He will hopefully be back for the large majority of the season.”
Along with Kightly, Wolves’ third warm-up defeat in a row was compounded by injury to trialist Jerome Thomas, who went off after 32 minutes with a hamstring niggle.
This comes at a time when McCarthy is also without £6.5million record signing Kevin Doyle, Andrew Surman and Chris Iwelumo.
The manager said: “Jerome just hurt his hamstring, but we’ll look after him and see how he is.”
But he has promised to give the former Charlton wide-man another chance to prove himself.
McCarthy said: “He might be around for a while depending on how his hamstring is and we’ll get him right and see him play again.”
Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme played 45 minutes last night, after the latest scan results on his back came back clear.

More Bad news,We need to get a few more in because one or two injuries and we begin to look a little week….ie.. Up front Ebankss Blake and who if doyle isnt going to be ready
Report abuse
uh-oh, we’re in trouble. Somethings come along and it’s burst our bubble.
ok panic button is now about to be pressed. we need to spend more money. a few weeks ago jez moxey said we will not do an albion and spend not enough. albion spent about 5 million more than we currenlty have and mick said we have completed our main transfer dealings.
Great. No Kightly, no Doyle, no Premier League experience, and no wins against garbage UK opposition. Remember 03 when we lost Murray and Lescott through injury, didn’t bring enough players in and had a similarly shocking pre-season? Only this could happen at the Wolves. Anyone for a game at Morecambe next week? No, me neither. Learnt our lessons my back side.
This injury situation is beginning to be a bit worrying.
As we saw with Hull last season, a good start can keep you going for the full season ahead. I know its only pre-season but we are already missing some key players for the first game.
I think the 2 loan signings are needed and quickly (too just be sure) if we lose more players we could be in some serious trouble.
another injury were going to make such a bad start to the season if were not careful we need more signings and quick
Report abuse
Think the board need to realise very very quickly that whilst we do have some real quality, the strength in depth is paper thin! If we are going to put up a more convincing fight this season then for my money we need to be spending far more on premiership quality or certainly potential! We have dabbled in the Market so far but nothing like I was hoping. Fully fit I think we have got a great chance but we need to acknowledge that injuries will occur and we need to be able to cover that!!
better with him having the op now than playign few games in the prem n he pulling up and missing like 3 or 4 months out
hope to have him back A.S.A.P thou
Report abuse
At least these injuries have come at at time before they are costing us any points and when we can still do something about getting replacements in.
Doyle and Kightly are major players for us and this needs major consideration.
If we are working to a budget for getting players in then surely the budget will be “adjustable” for such unforeseen problems?
Kightly should be fit by now and the fact he has had a setback is worrying. Are we wise to assume he will make his next predicted comeback date?
I think we might need some more players!
We might need (a fit) Jerome Thomas, at least for cover, even if the flanks aren’t the biggest concern at the moment IMO. Could do with a ball-winning/holding central midfielder + CB. Anyway – get well soon, Kites!
Surely this along with the friendly defeats, injures to the other key players listed above shows how short we are!
Could do with 3-4 quality players with experiance preferably a versatile defender, winger, striker and another centre-mid! Otherwise I believe we’ll find ourselves in the same predicament as 6 years ago after 2 games against sides from London and Lanchashire respectively…c’mon 3 M’s be postive
Report abuse
Another injury :( quick mick go in the market before it is too late
Report abuse
Couldn’t agree with you more Sven – Love u!
The season is turning into a shambles and we havn’t even kicked a ball yet in the Premier League.
This is a set back, Kightly not fit and the bigger rumour that Chelsea may offer Mancienne as bait for a cash plus player deal. Add this to Doyle and Iwelumo woes and this could be a reality check.
MM’s goal to build young and hungry is spot on – but we do need back-up. And if this means running for experienced cover then so be it!
Being a Wolves fan do we ever get any good news?
We still need a few signings for the new season but it’s gone very quiet on who might be coming in.
Anyone heard any rumours?
Up the Wolves!
Oh dear! not the best of news! but lets keep the faith! i’m sure all will come good and there are more signings in the pipeline as cover!
COME ON THE WOLVES
Report abuse
anyone else concerned about the growing list of crocks as the west ham game approaches ?
As an aside – anyone know the rules for canceling a game through player sickness? If the oink oink hits, how many squad players have to be sick for a fixture to be legitimately postponed?
The right thing to do. No point rushing him back for the start of the season and then him being missing for months. Very dissapointing though as it’s imperative we hit the ground running and kights is one of the 4 or 5 key players we’re gonna be reliant on performing next season.
The worry at the minute is that the positive atmosphere surrounding the club and the momentum gained from promotion (which stoke and hull rode last season) seems to be disappearing fast.
The other couple of signings that are (hopefully) being worked on need to arrive sooner rather than later to reignite that positive atmosphere and momentum.
In the three m’s we trust though.

Tick Tock Tick Tock, the clock is ticking 3M’s and the best players are dropping like flies. No strength in the team.NO AMBITION NO HOPE!!!! Mancienne to AC MILAN.Dithering again!!
Well haven’t I been banging on about this very situation in these forums and the need for quality cover up front (Maybe Zamora) and on the wings (Mr Duff). We also need a creative goal scoring midfielder (Mr Ledley). We haven’t even started the season and we have injuries in key areas.
We need to get our fingers pulled out quickly :-)
OK thats that then will i ever get to see him play going to the first game of the season and he is injured as is big chris (everytime i go)
Main point is we now need cover which is what most people have been saying for a while The premier league is more a squad game now than it’s ever been in the past and to survive we are going to need not only cover but quality in depth.
I have faith (just) in the 3M’S but now they need to strengthen it and our squad get the money out be it transfer fee or wages and bring in quality BEFORE ITS TO LATE

Our squad is beginnining to look at best average. Without our key players we are just a championship team. We our not scoring goals.
The lack of momentum on the transfer front is concerning, it as all ground to a halt.
What is the problem with loaning Mancienne if we can’t get him move on.
We are nowhere near equipped for the Premier league. Where is the experience?
Anyone we sign now is not goin to be fit for the start.

This is bad news! We need to get in a couple of buys and loans. Up the Wolves!

I was at the game last night, other than Stearmans slip we looked decent at the back I thought, Edwards is not ready for the Prem yet I like him but its prob too soon. We do need another sentre mid and should have addressed this when Leko didn’t sign, we painfully need cover on the flanks and upfront, though I think Vokes will do ok this season. Players pretty much walked through the game last night and SEB if he could have been bothered could have had 4. Quite likely Mancieene will go to AC Milan I mean wouldn’t any of us. We will still be fine as the quality is there we just need them all out on the pitch at the same time and I think Burnley, Hull, Stoke and Pompey will finish below us. Money still in the kitty and our two loan signing allowance still to be used not to mention the free agents. But we have to move quick
Report abuse
The current situation reminds me so much of the last time we were in the Premiership ie poor preseason and injuries to our best players. However on this occasion we are being told by the club money is available. Therefore there can be no excuses if we dont recruit additional players between now and the start of the season. If we pay the wages they will come.
This just exposes how thin our squad is, its a bit frightening isn’t it? We need to go for another forward a central defender, a central midfielder and a winger before the season starts. Our rivals the established Prem. teams like West Ham have deep squads we don’t. We have to fight for any reasonable player provided they don’t have Willie McKay as their agent so I guess that counts out McCormack.
Still reckon we are well equipped now Mick?
Who is a realastic target?
Huddlestone (already said we aint spending the money required)
Nolan (wages to high)
Finnan (missed out again)
Duff (is he good enough / passionate /wages to high)
Butt (no thanks)
Ledley (will go else where and be loaned back to cardiff)
Hamman (class good cover would he come?)
Lauren (another defender why not)
Amr Zaki (free but could upset team?)
Manciennne (going to milan)

AS someone who has broken his foot, i can tell you you feel like you can play along time before you actually can strike a ball in anger. But beware, if you try it, you will set yourself back. He needs rest.
As for cover, Halford is pretty good cover i think.
Shall we just chill a bit. We are joint top of the league right now.
i would love dunne. Butt. And mancienne on loan. If we do not take points from the first six games we will struggle as we have an easy start.
Mancienne has always been a long shot so we should not get our hopes up.Chelsea will wait till the last minute before releasing him.
Pre-Season is always a strange time. Should we be taking these results seriously? My feeling is that whoever is put in front of us we should go out and try and win the match. To be blunt we have lost three matches against supposedly inferior opposition and scored precisely 0 goals does not bode well!
MM I think you need to knuckle down and get this team firing again as these rsults will not inspire confidence and we all know that going into to our first match with no confidence will only result in one outcome!
To concede 5 goals and only score 1, against 3 teams that are in lower leagues is terrible. I know its for fitness but bloomin nora aren’t any of the players interested in trying to impress and get into the team? Sat right behind the goal at MK Dons last night. We thought Halford and Zubar (odd mistake apart) looked pretty good, but SEB looked a little chubby! I admit I already have pre-conceived opinions on Keogh, but again he struggled embarrassingly in front of goal and will cost us many hard to come by chances when the pressure is really on. His heading last night was woeful. Having said that MK scored from their only chance of any kind in the game and our build-up play outside the box was of some comfort. SEB has obviously proved he is quality and I’m sure Doyle will do too. I would stick with Vokes, as I think he will come good and will be a useful variation when we need a more aerial route, but beyond that we have problems – Big problems!

I am the most optamistic of wolves fans, but i’m starting to get a bad feeling about this campaigne. A good start is always crucial, and at the moment I can’t see wolves getting it. Only 17days til KO
If wolves do want to be cheap skates I think maybe Ricardo Rocha would be worth a punt on a free transfer. A CB, realeased from Tottenham because Dawson Woodgate and King were ahead of him in the peking order (no shame in that) has some limeted prem experience. has played at the top level in Portugal where he was very highly rated before he went to Tottenham. He’s also a Portugese international player and at the age of 30 has plenty of experience

Another reality check, Mick!
Not quite ready for the panic button but heading that way.
90 points and a clear gap from second place lulled us into a false sense of security. we never were much more than a good Championship side who relied on the inadequacies of others to show us in a better light.
Last season, the terrific start came on the back of an excellent pre-season. This time, we’ve lost to 3 lesser teams and are scoring very few goals.
The 3 Ms may well gamble on Doyle and Kightley being back quickly but as many people have said, apart from Man City away, the start is relatively comfortable and – like Hull did last season – we need to pick up points on a wave of early optimism and momentum.
For me, the doubts about Mick are always his ability to turn things round when things start to go wrong and if we start the season badly, I’m not convinced he has the ability to put it right.
At the moment, the ability of Milijas seems to be the only bright note and that’s nowhere near sufficient to survive in the Premiership!

Another injury, another shocking friendly defeat to a lower league team.
Is Mick losing the plot?

We need to spend now.Where is all the money ? We were told we wouldn’t do an albion yet we have so far spent £5 million less !! What is going on ?? It will be too late to integrate new players if we don’t do the business now.
Why are we so inactive.Does the manager think we are strong enough or is he being told that is it.
This feels just like the DJ scenario.
We need prem players now.
Get your fingers out Moxey and Morgan the fans will do their bit you do yours. No more empty promises we want action now.

Why don’t we stop all this messing around and do what Villa have done, get players in that are already injured!
It will save a lot of time and they could go straight onto the Tony Daley Ward a New Cross hospital!!!
Looking at the games we have at the start of the season, we need to start well and get points on the board to give us that confidence. If we have key players unfit then we need to get others in, thats without question, before its to late and we are points adrift from others.only a few weeks away now.
I’m not one of these typical wolves doom merchants, however 3 defeats on the trot and I am seriously beginning to wonder how we are going to compete in the Premier league. Fair enough – pre season is all about getting the players fit, working on systems etc, however given the quality of the opposition you must question our shocking lack of quality in depth. We have spent circa £15m so far which is peanuts. If Hull can be looking to Hijack Bent and apparently have matched Tottenham’s £15m valuation how does that make us Wolves fans feel. Are Hull bigger than us?? NO! Do they have a bigger fan base? NO Ok they have been in the Premiership for one year, but surely the financial gap is not that big.Brum have spent more than us, ok you can argue they had a lot of loan players last season, but even so – their chairman is determined to buy and back the manager.Whilst its not panic stations just yet – We do need to go into the season with some momentum ie a few good pre season results behind us.There must be some good transfer bargains out there, who knows the 3 M’s may surprise all of us before the end of the window, BUT and it’s a big but, there is only 2 weeka until the start of the season. We have had to wait 6 long years to get this chance again, Moxy has continually stated that we under-spent last time in the premiership and that lesons had been learned.Getting promotion whilst the lads did brilliantly, was a lot easier than staying in the Premiership will be, Lets all hope those purse strings are not shut just yet, I feel that 2 possibly 3 players is all that is required to enable us to compete with the teams around us. Burnley,Brum, Portsmouth,Bolton,Stoke,Wigan,Blackburn and WOLVES will lets face it be in the bottom half of the league, surely we are good enough to escape the drop, we just need a couple more astute buys. Come on Lads- onwards and upwards!!!!

This is a complete disaster with our top players and new signings going down like flys, our preseason performances against second rate Aussie outfits and embarrassment against MK Dons, our players are not fit and are not ready to face the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and so on, and we have already signalled that we will be the Premiership ‘joke’ this Season, in telling everyone that signing Doyle for 6 million was a record signing for the club.!!!
It was always the understanding of most supporters that the owner claimed at the end of last Season that money woulld not stop us signing the right players for Wolves, and amounts of 50-60million were rumoured to be available. Yet, while we have signed half a dozen new players we have spent less than 20million, and lets be honest, many of the new signings would never have rated with any other Premiership club.
And please someone tell me what this jaunt to Aussie achieved with the squad taken together with all the back up staff and ‘hangers on’ it must have cost us several hundred thousand, or maybe the services of another player !
After reading McCarthys recent post about how unfortunate the right players were not available to Wolves, I think its time for him to take a walk as I believe that he will be a disaster in the Premiership…
Mr Morgan….we need now
A new Manager or (someone to guide Mccarthy through the first few seasons) Allan Shearer as example
Two/three experienced premiership players
At least one proven striker
There are players still available, for gods sake, spend some money or we will be swallowed up in the first season.

Dis anyone really expect iwelumo to be a regular this season, i dont think so, so he shouldnt be missed too much. And havent we already bought greg halford and andrew surman for this very predicament. Theres still a few weeks till the start of the season and im sure if Mick finds someone who will improve the team, he will do his best to sign them.

very worrying with many players injured before the season starts, shows me that we need decent cover in all main positions.
i thought jerome would be good addition to the squad but he picks up a niggling injury.
also i think we need another decent striker and said yesterday how about mccormack from cardiff he has handed in a transfer request and another player was chris killen from celtic i would expect these two to less than doyle’s fee.
with any of our major players out injured we struggled in the championship god knows what would happen in the premier.

Though I do feel sorry for Thomas, thought he may add to the squad.
It was reported at the weekend (by a quality paper) that a deal has all but been done to bring in Alan Smith I presume this would be a season long loan, due to his wages, hopefully this deal will come to fruition & I would go for Michael Ball(free), Deitmar Hamman(free) & Danny Welbeck (loan) that would give us cover & experience across all of the areas we are lacking at the moment, they should also leave us funds for reinforcements in January. This also means that Manncienne would stay where he is unless Chelsea will allow us to sign him permanently, but I think he would be a wasted loan signing. But we need to act quick.

Everyone is talking about the lack of quality and experience in the Wolves squad, and the question is..are they right ?
If Wolves needed cash and put up the whole squad as possible transfer to other clubs to consider, how many would interest clubs in the Premiership.?
The answer is one…SEB – the remainder of our squad would attract the lower half of the Championship or even division 1
In fact, if Wolves bomb this season as many are predicting, we will not keep SEB back in the Championship, and he will move on.
I feel for SEB who I think has been let down by Wolves management in not bringing into the side experienced Premiership players.
If Wolves are relegated his value as a player will have dropped in the eyes of Clubs that may wish to sign him. He may well have been poorly advised in signing a new contract, as if we fail to bring in experience now to work with him, Wolves will fail and his career will be tarnished

Another Familiar Face
Posted on: Wed 29 Jul 2009
As well as Paul Ince and four former Molineux players being involved for Milton Keynes in last night’s friendly, another Wolves connection watched the game from the stands.
Popular midfielder Alex Rae is now first team coach for The Dons and despite seeing his former team losing out, he was optimistic of the club’s Premier League chances in the top flight.
He said: “You look at the strength in depth of the Wolves squad – there’s a lot of good, good players there. I really like the look of the boys Jarvis and Kightly – Mick has got some really good players at his disposal.

I think its time to re-think the transfer policy at this club. We have spent less than albion and they went down. What makes anyone think we are better equipped in staying up, having spent less, not addressed the centre back position as I think Berra, Stearman, Craddock are too clumsy, error prone and slow. Midfield, we need a cruncher, a midfield destroyer, as Henry wont put his foot in. Anyone note The Serb was capt last night…. He’s hoping he be capt this summer. 4-3-1-2 is the formation we need this season, midfield 3 tight, Kites playin in the hole, behind SEB and eventually fit Doyle. MM admits he needs a re-think on the playing side, I hope Moxey & Morgan rethink their transfer strategy as its looking to be abit of a disaster. Not enough investment = relegation. I would like to say Liz is correct in her comments. SPOT ON! Laughing Wolf take not, you jumbled players you keep harping on… DREAM ON, Those type of players will not come to wolves!!!

here we are again. The season nearly upon us and players already out injured.Losses to teams the reserves should beat.Where are all our new players Mick? surely we`re not finished yet.Plese,Mr.Morgan get rid of Moxey and MM and get in someone who knows about premiereship football. We must stay in the premiere now and we must have a asqad capable of keeping us there,i`m sorry but we are far from this and will remain so as long as those two are at the helm.

What the hell are you playing at Mick? nowhere near the squad we should have by now, players out injured already, losing to teams albeit in so called practice matches that the reserves should beat with their eyes shut. You really are messing up big time. Please Mick do the right thing and walk, taking the great Moxey with you.Mr.Morgan,please,please please, get in a manager who can do the job,WE HAVE TO STAY IN THE PREMIERESHIP THIS TIME,not do a Baggies.

I’m getting sick of hearing about how we’ve lost in these friendly. 1 the team gets rearranged every 15 mins to get players on the pitch. 2 players aren’t going all out for the win, in case they get injured. And 3 all prem teams lose to lower opposition in friendly look at man city and look what they’ve spent.
I was looking forward to this season now I’m not so sure. I’m a bit worried in case I end up sitting next to wolvesmod or JIWAL. Just imagine how depressing it could be. We’re in the premier league, we’ve made some good signing and we’ve still got time to make more. Cheer up for once, enjoy it and back the manager and team, they’ve got us here. Don’t forget that. True wolves fan forever.

84 – Live in the real world mate. We love Keano and he loves Wolves but the blokes on 70k for the next 4 years. Mick has a tight budget along with Hull, Pompey, Wigan, Burnley, Stoke (Im not counting blues as they will give 40k a week to anyone) and the shrewdest managers will make their clubs survive. 2 loan signings, 2 permanent signings to go.
3 years ago I was concerned, we lost 4-0 at cardiff with youth teamers on the bench just so we could get a squad together. We had just lost twaddle and half the squad after the parachute payments. Mick turned the club around and Morgan coming in to add new life. We dont want players not bothered (luke moore, carson, all of newcastle united!) we want to keep our policy of getting the best young players who want to join Wolves.
2 signings:
Joe Ledley
Dean Ashton
2 loans:

no we havent spent as much as the baggies did, but then again, the transfer window is not closed yet. Weve also spent more than hull and stoke did when they got promoted, and those teams managed to stay up. Its not the amount of money you spend, but who you spend the money on.
some of the players that have been bought havent played in the premier league before and therefor they must be rubbish, but when manchester united bought christiano ronaldo to the premier league, i bet all of you had never heard of the lad, but that didnt turn out to be a bad buy did it. Keep the faith with mick, you may think hes a muppet but hes a better manager than you will ever be and therefor knows more about whats good for this club than you doom and gloomers.

MM not the man said it last year and I’ll say it again and again. I know these games are about getting fit but results breed confidence it just shows how poor Australian Football must be.
Put the money up front I appreciate the pay structure theory but if we need to pay higher wages for god’s sake do it we need quality players not sentmentality for players that did it last year.
I’ve spent £600 for a corporate day the Man City Game I must be mad.

59, yorkshire wolf. Totally agree with you about us (the fans) creating the “positive atmosphere”. No one will get behind the lads more than me, and i would never bring any negativity to the mol on match day.
I was talking more about the general feel around the club and you can’t deny there’s been an obvious change from the positivity and excitement that was around a month or two ago. Apprehension’s clearly creeping in. Admittidly, it’s injuries and poor friendly performances/results (which don’t overly concern me personally) that have contributed to this. But for me it’s the lack of action in the transfer market (or lack of real quality signings) that is really worrying people. We said we wouldn’t “do an albion” and were really gonna give it a go this time but that hasn’t materialised let. I think people would be a lot more relaxed if mick hadn’t said that his main transfer business was done. People thought the likes of halford, surman etc would be back up/ones for the future, not major signings.
I agree negativity is never helpful, and as i said previously i am never negative at the mol and support the boys 100%.
I believe it’s a good thing for the 3 M’s to know the fans are concerned though as promises (made by morgan & moxey) have not been delivered on as yet, and according to Mick they won’t be (as his main business is done). If they are i’ll be the first to hold my hands up.

What a shock NOT!, another sponger who has booked off a few weeks holiday.
I did say like many others we should have cashed in on Kightly last season, this time next year we will be lucky to get a million, first season he was decent since then he has become bigheaded and lazy.
As for Jerome Thomas we would have more chance with Robson and Jerome than him.
Also heard we were outplayed at mk donss last night, no desire, no pace, no skill, hardly inspires for the season ahead MC CARTHY OUT NOW

It’s no good people coming on here just to moan about the moaners, a lot of these people remember the bad old days collecting in buckets and all.
Some of these people remember the good old days too cup finals, semi finals etc, etc.
Challenging in the top flight of English football was a way of life and should be again
We all have an opinion on our club and we all know what’s best for it, but when the majority of people know in their own minds things are not right and voice it, the powers that be should sit up and take note wether it be same as season 03/04 or back in the old 4th division.
The management and staff at Wolves are there for a few short years (Bully excluded) but for the rest of us it’s a lifetime.

with nowhere to go. We will not sign anymore large amount signings. Wolves will shop at Aldi, while decent clubs shop at M&S.

Although i believe in panic, i do acknowledge that the further setback on kites road to recovery, highlights the lack of depth within our squad.
We all know that players that have been out for a while are more susceptable to injury so lets not get excited. I still feel that Jerome Thomas would be a useful addition to a small squad.
Most of us on here would like to see at least two more quality signings sooner rather than later but would not endorse any panic buying or bringing in of players that would disrupt the balance of the club.
Its a difficult job and i believe that the current management (on all levels) deserve our complete backing until such times that they have proven to be incapable of leading at this level.
Keep the faith.

If anything happens to Ebanks Blake now we are in deep doodoo..
Now the season tickets have been sold, I wonder how many more signings we’ll make before transfer deadline day.. Not many, I’ll warrent!
NOT what we were lead to believe a couple of months ago.. IMO we need to spend another £15M. to be OK. Only thing that might save us as things are is the lack of quality elswhere in the division..

The omens are not good.It is annoying that we have lost so many crucial players as a result of training or friendlies.I think we can only hope for some inspired signings between now and end of Aug. One or two quality signings could make a big difference. That extra bit of quality up front with real pace and a decent centre back.If they could make these signings no one would then be able to say they didn’t give it a real go.If they are worried about the financial commitment then sign players they can move on if things don’t work out.We need some inspiration from the top.
To be honest this is a blow for us. No Kightly, no Doyle; we really need our key players for the start aswell. Just hope we get another decent centre-back in, and no one else gets injured, and we really need a replacement striker and winger now. I would be happy with Jerome Thomas at this point. Still, I’d rather have Kightly miss out a first couple of weeks and have better chance of stopping fit longer, than struggling at the start and then having longer out. Hope you and Doyle get fit soon. My line-up for West Ham…

67 YOU MUST BE WIFE OF SYLVAN!!ITS THE CLUB AND ITS FANS YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED OF!!HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF WOLVES FANS WHO HAVE SPENT ALL THERE LIVES LOVING THE WOLVES..SYLVAN IS A WOLVES PLAYER AND IS EMPLOYED AND PAID WELL TO SCORE GOALS YOU AND HE CAN REST ASSURED MAN U OR MAN CITY WONT BE CLAMBERING TO BUY HIM!!SO FAR WAT HE AS DONE IS GREAT NOW COMES THE ACID TEST…SO LETS SEE.
BUT REMEMBER ITS NOT A ONE MAN CLUB FEEL SORRY FOR THE WOLVES FANS NOT ONE PLAYER.
ITS BLATANLY OBVIOUS WE HAVE PROBLEMS GOING INTO THE NEW SEASON NOT ONLY WITH INJURIES BUT SYSTEMS ETC 2. I DONT NOW IF MICK WILL GET LUCKY OR FAIL POORLY BUT HE WILL BE GONE DATS FOR SURE AS WE WILL STRUGGLE I WANT BE SHOUTING MICK OUT AS THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WILL..
ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO WRITE”REMAIN POSITIVE MICK AS IT SORTED”THEY FORGET MICK,S BOYS NEARLY BLEW LAST SEASON !!IT WAS JUST THE NEXT FEW TEAMS BLEW IT ALSO AND SHEFFIELD STARTED THERE RUN A LITTLE TO LATE!!
I INTEND TO ENJOY US IN THE PREMIERSHIP AS FOR THE 3M,S I CANT BE BOTHERED AS MEN WHO ARE IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN AS THEY ARE I CANT THEREFORE UNDERSTAND WHY SAY THINGS YOU CANT FOLLOW THROUGH!!I COULD SAY LIES AND IT WOULD NOT BE OUT OF PLACE.THEY MUST UNDERSTAND THAT AN OPPURTUNITY AS BEEN PRESENTED WE ARE IN DE DREAM LEAGUE ,AN EVEN BIGGER OPPURTUNITY IS THAT WE CAN STAY THERE AS THERE ARE ATLEAST ANOTHER 10 TEAMS WE CAN COMPETE WITH!!ALL THAT IS REQUIRED IS FOUR SIGNINGS OF PLAYERS THAT ARE IN THE PREMEIRSHIP!!
KITES BEST OF LUCK MATE BUT ITS SOMETHING YOU AND JARVIS AND PLAYERS OF YOUR KIND HAVE TO GET USED TO IS BEING IN TREATMENT ROOMS..REMEMBER WHEN YOU DO PLAY FROM TIME TO TIME DONT LET YOUR GAME FALTER THROUGH FEAR OF INJURY…PACE IS GREAT BUT EQUALLY DEADLY ON AIDING INJURIES!!TAKE JEROME THOMAS!! YET MICK GOING TO LOOK AFTER HIM HE SAYS!!THIS GAME AT TIMES YOU HAVE TO BE RUTHLESS GET RID OF THE BOY AS WE NEED THE TREATMENT TABLES FOR THE PROVEN BOYS KITES JARVIS ELOKOBI WARD ETC AND OUR MOST EXPENSIVE RECRUIT DOYLE!!
AS DOYLE WAS ALSO PLAGUED BY INJURIES LAST YEAR ONCE YOU GET TO THAT STAGE LITTLE NIGGLING INJURIES I AM AFRAID THAT MEANS A THIRD OF THE SEASON SPENT SUNNING IT ON THE TREATMENT TABLE.

Mick is no fool and he will be doing all he can to sort the squad out.We do need more players with premiership experience and these will become more and more available as loans as clubs find they cannot sell some players.
The lack of goals in the friendlies is concerning and I’m not sure the quality was right. West Ham are playing Tottenham in a tournament – they will be up for it and don’t think they are a bad side. We do not have an easy start. We must get in players.

106. Wolves are a huge club with a huge fanbase but I do not want my club to be another Leeds. Spending beyond their limits and ending up in years of debt and possibly going under, if we got a billionaire owner in (eg man city) I would still be cautious as what happens if they get bored they go and take their money with them and the club are left with a huge wage bill and the support will soon drop off as they can no longer afford to bring in stars. Lets be greatful for who we are. A premier league club with some of the top youngsters and just to make things that little better albion are back in the panda pop league. Right now we need some quality and bite all very well with the transfer fees being reasonable but the wages are the issue ask Hull, Burnley, Pompey and Wigan. I would be happy with Ledley, Michael Ball Hamann and a couple of quality loans.

like many have said already. money in the kitty, 2 loan signings to use and the free’s. No one has gone transfer mad so far and i dont anyone will. Wolves and secure moneywise and many of the prem teams arent. high wages large squads, they will be a lot of unloading of players later in the season. the injury situation is a bit worrying but as a squad we should cope, esp with the new additions. pre season is about fitness then sharpness, see how things go at doncastor compared to end of last season. it’s going to be a tight season, but how you spend isnt the only way to stay up. there’s going to lots of twists and turns, and how wolves end up will be down to team spirit and staying focussed, like last season, there were plenty of times last season when they could have gone to bits but didnt. I might sound optamistic, but this time round i’m thinking we can do this, rather than ‘maybe’ like last time round.
People need to calm down! It was this panic and negative thinking that didn’t help us get into, or back into the premiership. Only a change of attitude (on the whole) the last few seasons has helped in that endeavour. We need the same attitude to stay in the prem, not this talk of we are repeating 6 years ago. We may have our concerns but we need to wait rather than setting the off a snowball effect of negativity
Report abuse
After the signings we made, i was thinking we have a good chance of survival in the Prem, that was if we made a few more good quality signings, no sign of that yet, and there is really little time now before the big kick off, add to that Kights is still not right, he started breaking down again in the friendly, you cant help but feel this injury is going to be a regular issue for the lad, Doyle should be ok, Hernia ops are routine, and he should recover from that quite quickly, we have Jerome on trial and he has broken down already, if he gets another chance and break’s down again then we should show him the exit, we don’t want a team full of sicknote’s, sounds harsh but a team filled with injury prone players is not going to keep us up.
Come on 3m’s, give us fans some real hope, our pre season has been poor to say the least, bring us these big signings you promised, surely Doyle is not the only one you were going to spend decent money on, i know we cant buy mega bucks players, but players around the price tag of Doyle can’t be beyond our limit’s can they?
