Jones ready to return after injection
Monday 27th July 2009, 11:31AM BST.
Wolves midfielder Dave Jones is set to return to training after a pain-killing injection in his troublesome knee.
Jones has been suffering from tendonitis which has severely restricted his pre-season training and kept him out of any action so far.
But boss Mick McCarthy hopes the jab will do the trick so the former Manchester United reserve can return to action soon after missing the first five friendlies.
“David Jones is starting to get back to training but isn’t anywhere near the team yet,” said the boss.
“He’s had an injection to get his tendonitis sorted and he’ll be alright.”
Winger Michael Kightly, who played the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bristol City after making a 26-minute comeback in the 2-1 reverse at Port Vale last week, is in the early stages of where McCarthy wants him to be as he works his way back from a broken foot.
“Kightly was way off where he can be and, if it had been a competitive game, he wouldn’t have been out there,” said the boss. “But it’s important he got another 45 minutes and it’s better for him than training.”
n A Wolves XI drew 0-0 at Hereford on Saturday. Keeper Marcus Hahnemann made his comeback after a hip injury. Neill Collins, Jason Shackell and Darren Ward also featured.
