Wolves give Balde time for fitness
Monday 27th July 2009, 10:32AM BST.
Wolves have extended Bobo Balde’s trial to allow the former Celtic defender more time to get fully fit.
The 33-year-old centre-back has been with Wolves for three weeks and played what boss Mick McCarthy initially said could be his final game in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bristol City.
But the Guinean international, who hasn’t played domestically since Boxing Day 2007, has now been handed extra time to try to win a Molineux contract as McCarthy looks for another central defender.
“It (Balde’s trial) will be a while because Bobo isn’t fit enough yet – he hasn’t played for a long time,” said McCarthy.
“But he wants that too because he wants to show us what he can do when he’s fully fit. By his own admission, he’s not there yet and I was tempted not to play him because he ran himself to exhaustion on Tuesday night and was knackered.
“But at the same time he needs to play as well.”
Balde said: “This is what we agreed when I came here because I haven’t played for such a long time.
“I need time to get back to full fitness and he (McCarthy) knew that.
“I’m glad to be back with a new team and I’m going to be working hard for the next few weeks to get back to my highest fitness.
“I thank the manager and the club for allowing me this chance.
“It’s good for me because I’m playing for a good team against good opposition.”
Balde admits he doesn’t know how long it will be before he’s up to full speed.
“I don’t know because I played last Tuesday and finished the game early and I played half a game on Saturday and I was a bit tired,” he added.
“But I’ll keep working hard because I know it will take time and then we’ll see what’s going to happen.
“As I said to the manager, I’ll need time to get back to my full fitness – that’s what we agreed so there’s no rush.”

Can we knock this on the head now please?
I never understood why mick took him on trial in the first place cuz he’s tracked him long enough to know all about him ability wise, but knew he would be woefully short of fitness/sharpness. I thought it must have been to judge how quickly (if at all) he would be able to regain these after 18 months without action, but now it’s become clear that the guys a million miles away from being ready for the first team the experiment continues????
I can understood why we were in for him last summer. He’s a monster of a man and will head/kick it all day, which is perfect for the CCC. He’s got no pace though and milk turns quicker, so he’ll get embarresed in the prem, cuz if there’s one thing you need it’s pace. Carbon copy of Darren Moore for me. No one better in the CCC in recent years but a joke in the prem cuz his kind of CB isn’t suitable.
Can see no plus points to this one. Ship him out now. It’s better for both parties before he embarresses us/himself in the prem.
Use the money his wages would eat up on the mancienne loan or elsewhere.

I don’t think we need him at 33. I would much prefer to spend the money and wages on Mancienne.
I have faith in the 3Ms and I hope they don’t feel the pressure of some of the panic-fans and end up paying stupid wages and end up like Leeds, Southampton, Newcastle etc etc

forget about balde,he has no pace, would be ok if we were still in coca cola championship, was wanted by blues last season but preferred to sit in the celtic reserves and pick up his 30,000 per wk,says it all really

He does have quality when hes fully fit he has experience and hes alot faster than craddock. He would do well for us but loan manciene get rid of shackell collins and ward. we need another midfielder and atleast another striker… maybe a loan striker to to add debth keogh does not have what it takes and vokesd has not enough experience leave blake the only fit player
get them in so the can work together in time for the start of the season
good look wolves your going to need it

wow the prem scouts are on here again. When his fitness is back you will see a different player. mancienne is a good upcoming lad but too much to ask to stop the big boys. Balde will be solid when fully fit and MM knows this

no3 Lee, I think your assessment is very good, especially of Darren Moore ,who played a lot of games for Derby when they finished with only 11 points. But do you think Mancienne will be good enough to defend our box in the air, without the cover of a big centre half ,such as Davenport.I get the feeling that Zuber is not that great in the air.
