Milijas hopes to stay at home

Monday 27th July 2009, 12:37PM BST.

Wolves new signing NEMAD MILIJASWolves’ Serbian playmaker Nenad Milijas is hopeful of being spared a gruelling trip to South Africa three days before his Premier League debut.

Serbia travel to South Africa for a friendly on August 12, a journey which would mean a 12-hour each way flight for the midfielder, and being away from the club for a week preparing for the game.

Wolves are already set to be without Wales trio Wayne Hennessey, Dave Edwards and Sam Vokes, Republic of Ireland’s Kevin Foley and Andy Keogh and Scotland’s Christophe Berra after the week leading up to the Premier League curtain-raiser was set aside for internationals. Chris Iwelumo and Kevin Doyle miss out through injury.

Wales have to fly two hours to Montenegro, Ireland are at home to Australia in another friendly and Scotland go to Norway in a World Cup qualifier.

Milijas has far further to travel and Wolves and the player are doing everything possible so the £2.6m signing isn’t inconvenienced before the West Ham game.

“I’ve talked with the gaffer and he says he’ll call Raddy Antic (Serbia coach) to talk with them so I can stay here,” said Milijas.

“He (boss Mick McCarthy) wants me to stay here with the team because if not, I’ll lose too much training – seven days of pre-season.

“At the moment, I think my national coach will allow this, but I don’t know yet. I want to be here – I want to play and I will do everything I can to play that game (West Ham) because I’m going to love to play that one.

“For me, the Premier League is a really big thing.

“But if I have to fly for 11-12 hours, I will have a problem.

“Mick and Raddy will talk on the phone and I’ll call Raddy as well to say I’ll lose too much (training) by playing in that game.”

Milijas gets on well with Antic, who he credits with the form that has won him a move to the Premier League and his emergence at international level.

“He (Antic) has done everything for me – he’s put me in the national team, I’ve played very well for the team and the team has done very well,” he said.

Would like us to add Gavin Mccann to our midfield – i think he would offer Henry a run for his money, good cover and Prem’ experience (Nicky Hunt also at Bolton on a free … decent cover in the full back pos’)

    Great preperation.

Who’s brilliant idea was it to arrange pointless Internationals a week before the start of the season!

If this was a competetive international. I think we would be concerned. However a friendly should not be an issue.

We need a few moew quality additions. Ledley, Mancienne (loan) Gavin Mc Cann. Personally I would also bring in Michael Ball on a free as I dont think Hill or Ward will handle Premiership wingers. 2 for every position:

    Hahnnemann / Hennessey
    Foley / Halford
    Berra / Stearman
    Mancienne / Zubar
    Elokobi / Michael Ball
    Kightly / Jerome Thomas
    Henry / Mc Cann
    Milijas / Ledley
    Jarvis / Surman
    Ebanks Blake / Keogh
    Doyle / Vokes

That is assuming we get that quality in. Even then a striker and another central defender will be needed as Craddock and Berra are going to find it hard, Stearman and Zubar ahould start.

I am sorry but I am not convinced with what MM said about the players we want are not out there.MM open your eyes and you will see,I would rather you see the door, but I think Mr.Morgan has been brainwashed as to your ability. You have to spend and get in at least three top players now and Mancienne must be one of them. You mentioned Knight but he went elswhere as have others.Stop the Bull MM and do the job or go,go,go.

truewolves what are u on! What about a centre mid a left back and a winger for cover we have no quality depth with miijas and doyle out it will be more or less the team that got us up and that will not be good enough for survival.

No 7 I dont suppose that you were around then{1957] when we had a young and hungry team, all of who, had at one time or another ,played for England and were a match for the great Man Utd prior to Munich.Since the early 60′s I have watched WWFC slide slowly down{and sometimes not so slowly}I have heard all the propergander from various incumbents at WWFC {this lot are no different} If you cant see any problems then you are easily satisfied with moderate footballers and cynical management. This job can be done but it will take cash and a lot of bottle.I dont see this at the moment. All we need is a couple of injuries to key players and we will be bottom at xmas.If I need my eyes testing then you need to get a brain.

    11. im not satisfied with moderate footballers and cynical management , thats why i support wwfc, the best club in the world, and because im younger than you that does’nt mean anything, i have seen the great teams of the 50′s 60′s on dvd and standards have dropped but that goes for everyone not just wolves, hopefully your not stuck in the past too much , to realise that football will keep changing , as does everything , utw

I suppose you missed the diabolical performance at Bristol, truewolves? You need to wake up and smell the coffee, we have a squad who is sadly going nowhere but down and the worst of it being we have had longer to prepare than pur fellow promoted rivals.

I see Stoke have put Seyi Olofinjana on the market, i hope we don’t go in for him, if Stoke are selling him on, then surely he’s not good enough for the Premiership, and being as he left us for another club in the 1st place, why should wolves offer him a lifeline anyway.

Today we’ve had laughingwolf on our site pretending to be a Baggie and being generally critical of the team and various players. Trouble was he forgot to change his user name.
I know you have a few Wallies from our side doing the same on here. They’re always so obvious but think they’re being clever. Wulfies and Baggies don’t agree about too many things but I think we do about these plonkers.

No. 17- yes it was very clever how somebody managed to post under my name, must of taken terry and yourself all week to come up with that brilliant plan! Still aslong as your happy! The championship talk must be boring! We also do agree on as few things we are a bigger club, we are a premiership club and you are not, we have our record sponsorship deal and you dont have one at all, all your best players want to leave whilst all of our players sign long-term contracts, we have just won the championship with 7 more points than you did. See we do agree on some things!

I look at the premiership and see Hull cant talk anybody into signing for them. Pompey have a senior squad of 15 and their take over will not happen until after the transfer window, Wigan have lost their manager and Valencia, Blues are collecting Dad’s army, Burnley will finish bottom (although I have got a soft spot for them). I think we have signed wisely. Doyle, Halford, Surman are quality young players. Zubar, Milijas and Hahnemann have to prove themselves but I think personnel is Micks strong point. 3 years ago we could barely field an 11. To get us promoted with a young squad of talented players without breaking the bank is a job I dont think Mick gets enough credit for. Joe Ledley next

Don’t worry laughingwolf – they have to take it out on us Wolves fans because we’re a Premier League club and they’re not, and we’re going to survive ;) I hope Milijas stays at home, I think he will as friendlies don’t matter. From what I’ve heard so far in pre-season games he’s top quality. I think Doyle will be fit aswell. I think that we need another centre-back (Mancienne), replacement striker and defensive-midfielder (Hamann) atleast 2bh to keep Henry on his toes, but I do think Henry will cut it still. I think Elokobi might cut it after a few games to get his fitness back, but if not a replacement winger and left-back would be good. Starting line-up versus West Ham Utd…
