A passion for horse racing has inspired renowned Wednesbury artist Fred Barnfield for his latest collection.

He has created his pieces from groups of five spoons, bent into shape to show the start of a race, parades, and a photo finish.

The 73-year-old, of Rachael Gardens, said: “Watching the racing on a Saturday I discovered the subconscious link with my spoon sculptures.

“Balance and centre of gravity, always moving with rhythm – like a horse and jockey.

The moment of realisation came seeing Mick Kinane on Sea the Stars coasting and perfectly placed throughout the race and perfectly balanced together to win very convincingly.” The cheap spoons have been bent and arranged for photographs so they show different phases of a race.
