Pedestrian hit by bus
Friday 24th July 2009, 3:15PM BST.
A woman was taken to hospital after being knocked over by bus in Walsall town centre today.
The pedestrian, thought to be aged 60, suffered serious injuries in the accident this morning.
It is thought she was hit by a single-decker 339 National Express West Midlands bus, which runs between Walsall and Bilston.
The accident took place in Bradford Place, near the entrance to the Saddlers Shopping Centre at around 10.50am. The area was sealed off by police and buses were being stopped in Bradford Street and diverted from the scene.
Claire Thomas, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said they received a number of 999 calls. She said the woman was taken to Manor Hospital suffering from serious injuries and hospital staff had been alerted to her condition.
Kerry Woolley, aged 16, of Clockmill Road in Pelsall, was in the area shortly after the collision. “It is a real shame that this has happened because people have complained about the bus stations and no-one seems to be listening,” she said.
Sgt Chris Jones, of Walsall road policing unit, said the collision investigation team had been called. It is the latest collision involving buses in Walsall town centre in recent years. Last year five people were injured in two separate collisions at Walsall’s main bus station.
