Diversity cancel nightclub shows
Friday 24th July 2009, 5:42PM BST.
Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity today cancelled a string of performances in front of adult fans, including a show at a Wolverhampton nightclub.
The popular dance troupe which took first place in the hit ITV show had been due to perform two shows at the city’s Oceana nightclub on August 8 after rescheduling the show from July.
The 10-strong group were to perform an early show in front of 13 to 17-year-olds and then later for over-18s.
The performances at the Bilston Street venue were lined up as part of a 14-date tour of the country to perform and meet fans who secured their victory on the hit TV talent search.
But the group’s management today announced the Essex-based outfit will no longer be completing all of the 24 performances lined up, and will be pulling out of nine of the remaining shows for over-18s.
The earlier shows will still go ahead as planned and no reason for the cancellations have yet been given.
Tim Howard, marketing manager for Luminar Leisure, which runs Oceana, said: “Naturally we are devastated.
“It’s unfortunate but we can’t influence the decisions they make, despite the fact it will disappoint thousands of our customers who can now expect a full refund. We’ll try our best to fill the evenings with other acts prepared to perform.” Diversity will still perform the early show at Oceana, which will run during a youth evening at the venue from 6pm.
Refunds will be given to anyone who has already bought tickets for the show.
Today’s announcement was made just days after rival Britain’s Got Talent finalists Stavros Flatley wowed their Black Country fans when they brought their dance act to the region.
More than 450 people packed in to Chicago Rock Cafe in Stourbridge earlier this month to watch the father and son, who won the hearts of the nation and impressed the celebrity judges with their appearances on the TV talent show.
