Thursday 23rd July 2009, 10:33AM BST.
A taxi driver has died after being found injured at the side of a rural road in Birmingham. It is believed the West Midlands man had been assaulted.
The man, in his 30s, died from his injuries shortly after arriving at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham last night.
Wast Hills Lane in Hopwood near Alvechurch, next to the Birmingham City training ground, was blocked off today.
There is a forensics tent at the scene.
A joint investigation has been launched by officers from both West Mercia and West Midlands police forces.
Police and paramedics were called out shortly before 9pm last night where the victim, who has not been named, had been found lying beside the road with serious injuries.
Officers treated the man with first aid before ambulance crews arrived. He was then rushed to hospital, but was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.
Police have said the coroner has now been informed and a post mortem is due to take place.
Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police at Redditch on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
