Pub site destruction left by travellers
Thursday 23rd July 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Trashed caravans, abandoned furniture and a mountain of rubbish – here is the scene of destruction left behind by travellers who called this landmark Black Country pub their home for the past eight weeks.
The Paget Arms, locally listed in Wolverhampton for its architectural beauty, has been stripped of metal, gutted of valuables and its car park left under a sea of rubbish, dirty mattresses, abandoned caravans and three-piece suites.

The convoy of eight caravans started pulling onto the car park of the Bushbury site in May, leading to campaigns from residents who demanded action to move them.
Both the council and police were powerless to help because the travellers were on private land. But now, hours after the group moved on at 8.30 last night, council bosses say they plan to serve a notice on the unnamed owner ordering the site be cleaned.
Council spokesman Gurdip Thandi said: “We are considering serving a notice under section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act to get the site tidied up. This would see rubbish cleared from the area, getting it fenced off, and a timescale given for demolition.”
Bushbury South councillor Peter O’Neill told the Express & Star today: “Pubs all over town and in estates have gone into decline. I think this is a tragedy and a shame for The Paget Arms. But there were allegations that not all of the fly tipping had been done by the travellers.”
The travellers moved to The Paget Arms after leaving a privately owned site in Showell Road of their own accord.
