Warning as fake DVDs go on sale
Wednesday 22nd July 2009, 10:52AM BST.
Fake DVDs of top films such as State of Play, featuring Russell Crowe, are being sold in the Wyre Forest district.
People were today warned by Trading Standards officials not to be buy counterfeit goods.
The warning follows the seizure of 3,800 DVD titles during swoops in Worcestershire after goods were advertised on the internet.
Films which have been copied include The Fast and Furious, Monster Aliens and Walt Disney’s Bedtime Stories.
Officials also say that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is also bound to be found among the fakes.
Depending on the quality of the merchandise, DVDs can sell from five for £10 to anything up to £10 each compared with the usual price of £13 or £14 each.
Previously, fake clothing and counterfeit Lambert & Butler cigarettes have been found on sale in the county.
Councillor Derek Prodger, Worcestershire County Council spokesman for transport and safe environment, said: “If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.”
Anyone who sees counterfeit goods on sale is being asked to call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
