Pompey to rebuff Distin interest

Wednesday 22nd July 2009, 10:57AM BST.

sylvain-distin-260x360Villa’s bid to sign Sylvain Distin has hit the rocks with Portsmouth insisting the centre-half is staying at Fratton Park.

Claret and boss Martin O’Neill has been linked with a £2million move for the Frenchman, but newly installed Pompey manager Paul Hart wants to keep the former Manchester City star.

The Fratton Park chief said: “We want Sylvain to remain at this football club and will be making sure he does.

“We have only ever had one offer for him and I am not at liberty to say who from. But we told them we were not interested under any circumstances.”

We do not need Distin anyway…he’s a step backwards, a journey man and what’s he ever acheived?

He’s 31 and to say he’s big lad, I rememebr Gabby knocking him off the ball a few times last season.

We need a leader, someone who is going to win every header, jump into every tackle 100%. The only problem is I don’t know anyone upto the job…
