Robbo speaks on Albion exit
Tuesday 14th July 2009, 11:18AM BST.
Departed Albion stalwart Paul Robinson has spoken of his departure from the Hawthorns to Premier League Bolton for the first time.
The left-back has been reunited with his old Baggies boss Gary Megson at the Reebok Stadium, in an initial one-year loan deal which involves a cast-iron clause which means it will become a permanent transfer worth up to £2million next summer.
Robinson ended five years at the club in what ended up as acrimonious circumstances, with the player making his wish to leave clear over the summer.
But he insists it was a “difficult” choice to make, with the lure of the top-flight eventually becoming too much to bear.
He said: “It was a difficult decision to leave, because the club had been such a big part of my life.
“But the Premier League is where I want to be playing until my legs pack up and tell me to call it a day.
“Last year I was supported by quality players and some of the football Albion played at times was magnificent.
“But sometimes it is about getting results and I feel I have joined a club that can dig them out, which means they won’t struggle.”
Robinson had made it clear he is at Bolton to stay, despite former Baggies boss Gary Megson agreeing to sign him on loan initially.
The defender added: “I have signed a three-year contract, simple as that.”
