Hundreds join hunt for missing mother
Monday 13th July 2009, 11:30AM BST.
Hundreds of people gave up their weekend to join in a search party for missing Black Country pensioner Margaret Elliott.
The 75-year-old former Causeway Green Primary School teacher, who has Alzheimer’s, left her home in Barnford Crescent, Oldbury, in the early hours of Sunday, June 28. She was seen in Windsor Road at 9.15am, but there has been no sign of her since.
More than 200 family, friends, and former pupils spent four hours searching Langley Park and Titford Pool on Saturday.
Yesterday, dozens more continued the search around Oldbury town centre and in Langley.
A Facebook site has been set up and has more than 4,600 members.
Police said they were concerned for Mrs Elliott’s welfare as she does not have her medication with her.
Son James, aged 33, said his mother was a popular face in Oldbury.
“Ex-pupils always ask how mum is, and I’ve never met anyone with a bad word to say about her,” he said.
Daughter Kate said the family were overwhelmed with the support from the local community.
She said: “It is just unbelievable, we really thought we would find her by now.”
Margaret lives alone, but has a strong support network of carers and has regular family visits.
Margaret is slim, 5ft 5in, with short white hair. She was wearing a beige cardigan, blue trousers and carrying a black handbag.
