Worker tells of robbery taser terror

Friday 10th July 2009, 11:30AM BST.

A worker has spoken of his terrifying ordeal after being stunned with a taser gun as robbers made off with cash and belongings worth more than £1,500.

Daniel Davies was punched, kicked and prodded with the taser gun three times sending a small electric shock through his body during the attack at his home in Walsall.

The 23-year-old was forced to reveal the pin number for his bank account during the ordeal as the gang, believed to be four men, said they would stab his girlfriend.

Mr Davies has been renting the property for four months while he works on behalf of a Derby-based electrical contractor on the Walsall Manor Hospital redevelopment. The attack happened at the flat he shares with his 25-year-old partner Victoria Cawley in Waterfront Way, Pleck, just after 11pm on June 23.

The robbers made off with two laptops worth a combined £700, two mobile phones including a top of the range £500 model, £30 in cash and bank card which they used to withdraw £300.

It is unknown how the attackers got into the communal area of the three-storey block and police are now appealing for witnesses. Mr Davies said: “I had just gone to bed and there was a knock at the door which I ignored at first. It kept knocking so I answered the door on the chain but they battered the door through.

“They started shouting for £2,000 and then for phones and laptops.

“I was then hit on the back twice and on the leg with the taser gun.

“It is hard to describe as it was not like a shot of pain, but a sort of numbness and was like having muscle spasms.

“They threatened to stab my partner unless they had the pin number and you just don’t expect this to happen in your own home. It was horrific and particularly scary for my girlfriend.”

Police have issued descriptions of the men. One was dark skinned, of medium build, 6ft 1in to 6ft 2in tall and wearing a dark jacket with the hood pulled up.

Another was a light-skinned Asian man, 5ft 6in, slim with a round face.

He had a dark padded jacket and a thin trimmed beard around the jawline which does not meet at the chin.

The other robbers were described as being of medium build, 5ft 10in to 5ft 11in tall and wearing dark clothes with their hoods up.

Anyone with information should call Dc Lindsey Tierney at Walsall CID on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
