Miller backing for new strike partner

Friday 10th July 2009, 11:00AM BST.

ishmael-millerAlbion star Ishmael Miller has hailed the arrival of new-boy Simon Cox and called for a repeat of the Championship goal-fest of two years ago.

The injured forward reckons the £1.5million capture of Cox from Swindon is a huge boost for the Baggies and insists the squad cannot have too many goalscorers in their ranks.

Miller, who hopes to recover fully from his knee injury in time for the August 8 kick-off at home to Newcastle, was one of five men in double figures for goals as Tony Mowbray’s Albion surged to the Championship title in 2007-08.

Now he is hoping the new striker can join the established Hawthorns stars on the goal trail.

The former Manchester City hitman said: “I have seen and heard that he has scored goals and last season he obviously scored a lot, but I don’t personally know too much about him.

“But the other players have said he is a good player and hopefully he will be a great addition to the squad.

“Last time I think we had the right mix in the team and we were scoring goals from everywhere.

“Robert Koren got 10 goals and Zoltan Gera scored goals too and I think we need everybody to score.

“You can’t really rely on one or two people to score your goals.”

Good signing and with Miller coming back could be a Miller time of a season with his pace. Don’t know to much about Cox but if he gets 15 or so be a good return. up the Baggies Boing Boing…

I do some contract work at a place in Swindon and one of the blokes I deal with is a season ticket holder down there. He said “the kid is a goal scoring machine in our division, he can make a goal out of nothing and loves playing off a big striker!” but he also added “I just hope the lad can make the step up!” that says it all for me really. If the kid comes good, he’ll by a fantastic buy and we’ll all be boing boinging, if he flounders somewhat he could end up another Ernshaw or Dobbie! He may be better suited to playing with Bednar… just a thought.

If Cox plays as well as he talks then we will be there or ther abouts. I personally think that the existing strikers we have should do a good enough job between them in the Championship. We have got plenty of gifted midfielders who should lay it on a plate for whoever is upfront and if Clem can get and keep fit, we should be tight enough at the back (if the boss can succeed at where we failed last season and cut out the stupid school boy mistakes)

PS Mr Peace – please allow Robbo to leave and spend the £750,000 on cover for a right back!

We shouldn’t have too much trouble scoring goals with the men at our disposal, then if Clem is fit, that’ll gob the holes up at the back. Remember, he came as a left back too. If RDM keeps Robbo, BECAUSE HE WANTS TO, then we bury the hatchet, (not in his head either) and get on with getting promoted. Nearly ALL players are mercenaries. Whichever barmy army pays the most, they’re off so forget this Robbo isn’t loyal stuff. If JP can screw Meggo for loads of dosh, well and good, if we don’t sell him, get on with it. If we pay him, we play him, as and when RDM picks him to play. I want to play The Wulfies, Villa and Blues next season in the Prem. Coventry too if poss.

Out of a gesture of good will please accept the following advice re your away games next season.

Try the meat pies at DONCASTER..lovely. They’re made out of the corpses of previous away fans – sometimes you find a rosette in with the meat.

Also you must taste the special soup at PRESTON and please please eat the Kebabs at BARNSLEY. They are a long way from being premier but ok for you.

DERBY and READING are good for local ales but please take a sick bag or three.

Enjoy your trip to see WATFORD and CHARLTON and QPR and take in a show preferably instead of going to the game – you’ll have more entertainment that way.

Take your bucket and spade when you go to IPSWICH cos its near the sea as is PLYMOUTH.

How I envy you going to all these exotic places. I’ll have to content myself with going to Old Trafford, the Emirates, Anfield etc ect ect. You are Sooooooooooooo lucky.

    Cheers

E11PremWolf. I liked the pie joke but the rest wasn’t funny really. Oh, and ect is NOT the same as ‘et cetera’, which is Latin for ‘and the rest’.
ECT is what you apply to the brain for folks in serious stress conditions, Electro Convulsive Therapy. A lot of Wulfies will advise you next season. It’s quite painful I’ve been told but useful for dispelling bad experiences, like, er, Old Trafford, Chelsea, etc. (et cetera).

Thanks for the advice. You would be an expert having spent so many seasons down there. I could tell you about Newcastle but like us they will be passing you going in the other direction next season, so no point really. Enjoy the novelty of your season with the big boys
