Cox pledges Hawthorns swagger
Thursday 9th July 2009, 12:31PM BST.
New-boy Simon Cox today breezed into Albion and promised to carry his League One ‘swagger’ into the Baggies’ Championship campaign.
The 22-year-old met the media this morning after sealing his £1.5m switch from Swindon and insisted he can build on his prolific season for the Robins last term.
Cox, who has signed a two-year contract with a two-year option in the club’s favour, said: “I am a very confident person and people will get to know that.
“Hopefully when I step out onto the pitch I will ooze confidence. I have a bit of a swagger about me and I’ve got the arrogance to get on the ball and make us play and score some goals.
“There is a bit of momentum but also a bit of pressure. I enjoy that pressure because it means I’ve done well in the previous season.
“I’ve come here to enjoy it and try to prove myself at this level. I was talking to someone who said the Championship is a little bit harder and every goal you score is worth half for each league you go up.
“But if that’s the case it’s fine because I’ll get 15 goals this year.
“I’m not under pressure from the manager or anybody but I put pressure on myself to do well and I always will.”
And Cox set his sights on helping the Baggies bounce back to the Premier League at the first opportunity.
He said: “The club’s aim is to get promoted. My aim is to play as many games as possible and have an effect on the team to help us get promoted.
“I’m someone who likes to be in and around the box and hopefully score loads of goals. I don’t mind doing my bit for the team and working hard and in every game I’ll give 110 per cent.”
