Highly-rated Fulham centre-half Brede Hangeland has played down speculation that he is the man to replace Martin Laursen at Villa.
The 28-year-old defender, backed by the endorsement of fellow countryman John Carew, has been targeted by Villa as one of a clutch of summer signings manager Martin O’Neill wants to make.
The Norway international, who is also thought to have Arsenal and Manchester City on his trail, has triggered growing speculation about a summer move from Craven Cottage after rejecting a new contract.
But he has now told Norwegian media that he believes he will play for Roy Hodgson’s team next season.
When asked if he expected to be at Craven Cottage next season, he said: “I believe so. It looks that way.”
Reports suggested that Hangeland had rejected an offer to double his wages from the club but although he has hinted he is eager to secure a better deal, Hangeland claims that he is keen to commit his long-term future to Fulham.
“I’m very happy at Fulham and would like a new contract, but then we must agree on something that both parties can be satisfied with,” he said.

Another greedy player who thinks he is good enough to hold a club to ransom for his services, let him stay at Fulham, I’m sure he wont get the big bucks there.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch Hangeland with a 10ft
barge pole, especially at £9 million. I would much rather pay the extra £3 million and get Upson. A better header of the ball, harder to knock off the ball, plays the ball out not just hoofs it and faster.
