Villa linked to Lisbon’s Veloso

Tuesday 7th July 2009, 10:52AM BST.

miguel-velosoVilla boss Martin O’Neill is again at the centre of frantic transfer speculation as the club prepare to begin pre-season training later this week.

O’Neill’s inactivity to date, when he is under pressure to find replacements for Gareth Barry and Martin Laursen, is causing growing unease among the fans.

The manager is now being linked to a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso, after Bolton failed yesterday with an £8million bid for the Portugal international.

There are also suggestions from Portsmouth that Villa could be about to enter the race to re-sign their striker Peter Crouch.

More probable will be an O’Neill bid for Pompey’s key defender Sylvain Distin, who he has earmarked as a replacement for the retired Laursen.

You’re oh so wrong ! ….. If you only knew the name of the targets O’Neill is working on you’d begin to appreciate why deals are taking a long time to finalise. He is a clever man and will not be held to ransom by the selling clubs over price. The influx of talent joining Aston Villa this Summer will be quite staggering.

Well Peter, I hope your right, if you are, thats some crystal ball you have there.

Phsyco, 41 players of which 39 are paper talk, the other two I’ll believe when it happens.

    Freddy, Is Veloso any good?

I have to admit, I dont like MONs attitude regarding his transfer dealings, were running close to the wire again and I’m getting really edgey now
