Trouble-hit street to be blocked off

Saturday 4th July 2009, 10:36AM BST.

One of Wolverhampton’s most notorious streets can be blocked off by police from Monday to curb late-night trouble.

The move comes after police were called 1,800 times in just three years to Broad Street. They will also have the power to close off the Broad Street South westbound carriageway and Westbury Street.

Two people have been stabbed to death in Broad Street in the past year and there have been numerous brawls and robberies.

In August, 21-year-old Marlon Morris was killed and in October Ann-Marie Kamilla Parkes died after an attack at the Caribbean Hut restaurant. Asda worker Thomas Barratt, 18, nearly died after being attacked in January.
