Tipton’s Rob Doody has warned he packs a killer punch ahead of his next test at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on July 17.

The light-welterweight has gone the distance in both of his fights as a professional boxer, with winning decisions over Kristian Laight and Karl Taylor at the Civic.

Both opponents rarely taste canvas and a stoppage is even more scarce, Taylor hasn’t been knocked out in 20 fights while Laight hasn’t been stopped since 2006.

Doody is happy to go the distance – his day job as a personal trainer affords him the fitness to – and is unlikely to get drawn into a brawl with anyone.

The 27-year-old is more dedicated to the finer skills of the game, but warns he can drop an opponent at the drop of a hat.

He said: “The good thing about me is I like to box, I don’t want to stand there and have a fight with nobody. I am an endurance fighter, I train to last the distance in good shape.

“But I have got no worries, I know I can land the shots as they come. There’s no worries about my power, I know how hard I can hit. Ask my padman, he will tell you.

“When I find my feet and get stepped up to a better calibre of boxers, you will see the best of me.

“But, for now, I serve my apprenticeship and take on the learning curves.”

Fight number three is another step on his ‘apprenticeship,’ with Craig Dyer or Brummie veteran Jason Nesbitt the next mooted opponent.

Doody is hoping to keep up the good work.

He said: “I have watched the video’s of my two fights and I could see the marked improvement in my last, I didn’t get caught with so many shots and landed a lot more.

“People who know about boxing know Karl Taylor is a step up for a new guy, so it was pleasing.

“I will be looking for that sort of progress again at the Civic.”
