Wolverhampton captain Simon Lycett insists his side are ahead of schedule after playing down their title ambitions.

The club sit third in the Premier League, 26 points behind leaders Knowle & Dorridge, and go to struggling Moseley on Saturday.

But, despite their healthy position, Lycett insists they’re not focused on a title charge.

He said: “There is no pressure on us. We’re still consolidating because we’ve had a tough time in the last few years, so when we got back into the Premier League last year we wanted to build something sustainable.

“We’re still early in that plan but we’re very pleased. We’re not thinking about the title.

“There are six or seven teams who can challenge for the title. If you are in those teams with a few games to go then you’re in with a shot, but you never know how things are going to go.”

Saturday’s game with Walsall was abandoned, with Walsall 40-2 in reply to Wolverhampton’s 143-8.

Walsall will be aiming to revive their Premier League title ambitions when they host Kenilworth Wardens on Saturday.

Paul Wicker’s men were forced to settle for eight points from last weekend’s abandoned clash with Wolverhampton.

That allowed leaders Knowle & Dorridge to stretch the gap between them and sixth-placed Walsall to 38 points.

Elsewhere, skipper Jonathan Wright has challenged his Kidderminster Victoria side to deliver the win they need to get their title challenge back on track.

Victoria have slipped to fifth following Saturday’s five-wicket defeat to Bromsgrove.

Wright’s men now trail leaders Knowle & Dorridge by 38 points, as the season reaches its halfway stage this weekend.

He admits they desperately need a win over ninth-placed Leamington Spa this weekend to get kickstart their campaign.

The skipper said: “They are one of those sides that, if you have ambitions of winning the league, you are aiming to take the lion’s share of the points.

“I say that with the utmost respect for them as a side – we just need a win to get our season going again and we need to put a marker down to the teams around us.

“The week before last we lost to Wolverhampton at the death. Had we won that game, we would have been clear at the top of the table.

“If we can pick up 24 points somewhere and another top side gets a draw then that will open things up again.”

Veteran left-arm spinner Mark Mansell returns to the side at the expense of Andy Kimberlin.
