Halford set to sign for Wolves
Thursday 2nd July 2009, 11:50AM BST.
Wolves are set to complete their third signing in as many days with the capture of Sunderland defender Greg Halford for £2million.
The club have confirmed their interest in the 24-year-old right-back but, in keeping with their usual policy, they are refusing to confirm the transfer until it’s completed.
A fee is undisclosed but it is believed it is for around £2million.
Sources on Wearside insist the deal should be completed today for him to follow Kevin Doyle and Andrew Surman into Molineux.
Halford’s arrival would take Wolves’ spending to over £12million this summer following the arrival of Nenad Milijas for £2.6million, Kevin Doyle for a club-record £6.5million and Surman for £1.2million, while goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann joined on a free.
Following Surman, Halford’s arrival will mean Wolves have pipped Sheffield United to two signings in as many days, as the former Colchester man was set for Bramall Lane if the Blades had been promoted.
Halford, who spent last season on loan at United, will be seen as competition for first-choice right-back and Player of the Year Kevin Foley.
The Chelmsford-born player also boasts the weapon of a Rory Delap-like missile throw.
Good going forward with pace, Halford was touted as a future star when he was signed by Roy Keane for £3million two years ago, just six months after Reading paid £2.5m for him.
But he has played just three games for the Black Cats as he found himself farmed out on loan, first to Charlton, where he played 16 games in the second half of the 2007/08 season.
Last season he was a virtual ever-present for Kevin Blackwell’s side, playing in 41 League games as they reached the play-off final only to be beaten by Burnley.
Despite his lack of appearances for Sunderland, Halford has still piled up a healthy 204 League appearances thanks to his loan spells.

What a pointless signing.
Tell me why we need a right back when we have Foley and Stearman.
Then again, he’s a Sunderland player isn’t he?
well well i wondered how long it would be before he went shopping at his favourite store!!!!!!
If we get a centre back and a tackling defensive mid-fielder we could really be there!
Absoloutly love the way we are doing business. I know nothing about this guy other than he appears to be in demnand, but I love the way Jez Moxey in particular is shoving the words of his doubters wher the sun don’t shine.
Great to see us signing a few dcecent additions to the squad. Can’t wait to see the “bigOne ” we are being readied for by Mr Morgan.
Keep it up, it’s a great time to be a Wolves fan.
Cover for Foley at right-back and played very well at centre-back for Sheff Utd. Good age, pace, scores goals and another good squad player. I completely trust the s m’s but will be glad to see 2 experienced prem heads in there as I feel that is the only ingredient we lack to finish comfortably outsidce the relegation zone.
WolvesMod & BobWolf Listen listen to them moan about he is a player from sunderland!!!
As far as I am concerned its another good addition to the squad. “He’ll put a shift in” and keep Foley on his toes.
He couldn’t get in the Sunderland squad n was shipped to Charlton, says it all. Why do we want him?
How about some Premiership experience Mick?
Only seen him playing for Sheff Utd but impressed with what I saw. Mate of mine who is a Blades fan says he would be an awesome signing. Loving the fact we are continuing the Young and Hungry policy.
Cover at right back – can play CB if needed and i’ve seen him play as a defensive right side midfield for Sunderland
Not a bad signing – just need a good CB and perhaps another first team centre mid and then let the season start
Report abuse
wolvesmod:-
Forget your season ticket & go fishing!
Negativity seems to be your guidance.
You’ll be saying next that bargain basement signings Kites, SEB & Jarvo will never cut it in the Prem!
Mick asked for 3 years to get Wolves back to the Promised Land & he did it.
I’m quite sure the blue & white lot down the road would willingly swop places.
also can play right midfield and given he is more defensivley minded that Kightly, that may become useful in away games next season especially. A versatile player and a good addition in my view.
Didnt he have a bit to say about us last season though? saying Sheff Utd were a better side?
I like it, good skills I am putting a tenner on top half finish…………Bring on the Hammers.
He won’t be playing full back much,Sheff Utd used him in an attacking role, coming late for headers from mainly wide positions. In this role he is dangerous, but not as a defender in the Prem.I think we have made some decent signings this week, but we need a top quality central defender with pace and someone who is stronger and better in the air than Mancienne.
I have got a sneeking feeling that MM will try Foley in midfield as he did on a couple of matches towards the end of the season it gives him the option to experiment.
1 & 2 idiots but expect a few more before the day is out.
He was great for Sheffield United last year. Ever heard of strength in depth and competition for places.
If Stears secures a place at centre half and Foley gets injuried or suspended why make 2 changes in the back four by moving stearman when you can just make one like for like at right back.
Could mean that Mick sees Foley as a holding midfielder next season with Halford as first choice right back?
Excellent long throw to from what I’ve seen, learning from Stoke and the Delapidator!!
what an exellent signing if we get him but looks like we are i seen him on many occasions for sheffield united last season and believe me he is top class im so glad were signing him believe me if mick gets him back to his best he could be better than foley and be first team right back he is that good well done mick and jez for getting these players in just need another solid midfielder and 2 solid center backs and we should be done but i no mick will have something up his sleeve u watch he will shock us all soon with another big signing like he did with kevin doyle so stop moaning this is a brilliaint signing! :)
What a superb signing. He is a very versatile player and when he played for Sheff UTD against us last season hw was Man of the Match.
He played as a midfielder and striker in that game.
He is great in the air too. I am absolutly delighted with this signing. Great player.
excellent news stop moaning he is top class!
We needed cover for Foley, now we have it, i think this is a good addition to the squad! Stearman is not a right back in my opinion he is a center half so Halford is a good signing.
We are not buying players with prem experience (doyle the exception) that is my only worry!
1. one word to sum you up is “PRAT” 12. it was kilgallon he said things about wolves. Another good signing with a point to prove these signings will look even better with a couple of expereinced players which i think we will see before the season starts i am very hopefully and very happy with our business so far. RICHARD DUNNE, KEVIN NOLAN AND MANCIENNE NEXT PLEASE VERY VERY HAPPY WOLVES FAN!!!!!!!!!! MOANERS STAY OFF THE PAGE AND GO SUPPORT THE TESCO!!!!!!!!!!!
wolvesmod so what happens if Foley breakes his leg first or or he does not make the step up to prem level?? shut up and stop moaning
Report abuse
WHAT A SIGNING IF IT PULLS OFF- LONG THROW EXPERT JUST AS FAR AS DELAP AND HOW MANY GOALS IN STOKE SCORE FROM THROWIN’S … MARK MY WORD QUALITY!!! COVER FOR FOLEY AND KITES AND CENTREAL DEFENCE ..
UP THE WOLVES !!!
This is a vary smart move by Mick, a young hungry player who wants to prove himself at the top level, also the fact he can play at the back, in midfield and also up front means 1 signing provides a lot over cover and possibly frees up more cash for some other big signings?? When ever I’ve seen him play he’s looked good on the ball, has pace and scores the odd goal. Also doesnt he have a pretty long throw in that Sheff Utd used to their advantage last season?? Maybe Wolves own Delap??
He also has a very long throw like Rory Delap. Could be a tactic by Mick when the pressure is on!
We had to get one from there didn’t we, now he’s scratched that itch I’m sure MM (was watching the muppets with my boys last night, Mick don’t half look like the eagle one on that!)has plenty more to come. In all seriousness 24, quick, strong, a good price and was outstanding for the Blades who were quality defensively. Never mind what he’s said he’s a fighter and now he’ll be going to battle for the mighty Wolves. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLL! The only way is up baby!!!
Let’s not forget how impressive Foley is in midfield. Perhaps this augurs a change.
20. Noland and Dunne to sign next week dont fear.
Some good, squad / back up signings coming, but I hope to see at least a couple more experienced players at this level being signed. Centre Halves in particular !
Wolves Fans, we all moaned and said we will not be paying big money for players, and slagging off the board, but have some positive things to say, we have just splashed 6.5million on one player, that is un heard of from wolves let alone Moxey, he hates spending money!! but we need to get behind them because they are doing a greayt job to get the best possible players in, and i think halford would be a great buy he was brilliant for sheff utd.
the three Ms are trying there best to give us a great start, and if we can stay up, the future is bright at the wolves, with young up and coming talent. forget the big overpaid stars, there no better than the players we have just there for the money.
rich
Report abuse
Just be careful what you say about Mick, the club have been working superbly all summer and one dodgy transfer wont ruin that.
I really hope this isnt true though as it must mean Foley is heading out. Why else would we spend £2m on a RB?
Good sound signing, we do need cover for Foley at right back as we do in every single postion for next year. Would anyone like to have a wager that Foley will start playing a few games in midfield?
Get ready for Mr Morgans Liverpool connection to be unveiled before the week is out………..and yes you can quote me.Remember the shop Owen and ……….
Also Wolves will only take Mancienne on a 12 month loan with no clause for him to go back so that deal wont go anywhere as Chelsea wont let him go unless they can sign another 2 centre halves in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe the plan is to use him as RB and let Foley go into central mid where he was awesome in last game of the season – this could in effect mean a new midfielder signing
Report abuse
Will this give Foley a few games in centre midfield? We all saw he could do it in the odd few games he did a job in there.
Foley Going nowhere, Premier League is all about squad strength and also having players who can adapt to different postions i.e. fitting in a solid 4-5-1 at the Emirates, Old Trafford, Anfield etc…
Report abuse
Not sure about this one – seems pointless. £2M is a lot for him. I think Mark Little is adequate cover for Foley, and if necessary Stearman can fill in.
1&2 go back to the TESCO POP SIDE..how pathetic you lot are pretending to be Premier Wolves fans but its what i expect from losers like lot..
This guy is a top signing and another good bit of business..
well done mick and jez..
31..its called cover..
I see the clowns are out again. A very good signing. Stearman in my opinion is now a centre half. He like others were all over the place in the home game v Preston.
Ask any Sheff Utd fan and they will say that Halford was quality last year.
Now for a centre half and Leko, sort the work permit out and job done. We will be a match for a dozen teams in the Premiership!
If he had prem experience he would not cost 2m, if proven at this level and doing well would not come to a newly promoted club.
I do agree we need experience but we have to wait and maybe think outside the box of getting a player with experience on the way down to getting players who have the potential, hunger and on the up!
Is an excellent signing and having seen him for Sheff utd last season can do a great job for us. Another solid and clever signing.
moan moan we have payed more out then when sir jack cut and run well done
Report abuse
Wolvesfan…. Foley wont leave, he has had the best season at the club and he is 1st choice. Why spend £2M on a RB…. Why not, you need a big squad and his fee suggests he must be a great back up for foley if he gets injured. Fans on this board need to realise, you cant go through a whole season without picking up injuries. So you need quality players to cover these evenutalities. I would rather see a £2M right back then play someone out of position i.e Stearman who is not a right back but a centre half and a good one of that! I have a suspicion that Mancienne will be coming to wolves and I think he and stears will be the centre half combination for next season. Nolan is probably will be the anchor man in midfield and I would not be surprised if he was made captain.
nice deal
adding competition to places, cover for foley and kightly (whos been injury prone past two years) chips in with goals! we at least get decent throw in taker for once :-p
and if worst happens and we went down the likes surman, halford and doyle will stay unlike our last signings in the premier league
so we’re building on this team and not signing a new team which be dismantled if relegated
Report abuse
A decent addidtion to the squad, always impressed when watching him for sheff utd last season.
We need these centre halves though, Mancienne or Sol campbell or both.
Heard Kevin Nolan was on his way to us today, not sure if this was a wind up. Anyone else heard??
Good signing, he has a class right foot as shown by his high success with free kicks.
And it is true about his throwing, I remember this when he was at Colchester.
And for me Stearman is a CB not RB, we have tons of Left backs it seems so it’s nice to see the right side is being strengthened.
Now Leko for CM/RM support and Mancienne as next CB and I’ll be happy.
Why do we need more cover at right back?
What’s wrong with Collins for heaven’s sake?
great signing, my only concern being that i dont think mick gives our wolves bred players enough of an opportunity. Lewis Gobern and Dan Jones for example did very well when called upon in micks first year at the club, and havent had a look in since, with stephen ward, michael gray, kevin foley, darren potter, david edwars and andy keogh all preffered in the right and left side of midfield over them. Mark Davies would have been in the same position, and now mark little. I remember last pre season, Little was said by the backroom staff to have been very close to foleys level and very unlucky to not be in the 1st eleven, for the sole reason that foley was looking excellent. Im not complaining about this signing, in fact when i first saw this story, i was really impressed…just cant help but feel the money would have been better spent in other positions, and am slightly worried that our own youngsters arent getting a look in.
The more I think about this signing, the more I like it. Plus, he can throw Delap style balls into the box. I’d fancy that with 10 to go and Big Chris is loitering at the front post. Another option for us. If he could play left back I’d be happier still. Not sure about Elokobi playing there, and Ward certainly shouldn’t be there.

spot on comments..
negative comments on here are from Tesco town so just ignor them..
more great signings to come and talks with Owen are underway on a pay as you play deal…
Report abuse
Another welcome addition to the Wolves ranks and before anyone shouts me down, 18 players are required for each Premiership game, 11 + 7 substitutes so we certainly need cover for almost every position and not ‘square pegs in round holes’ as we have seen many times before.
McCarthy and co. seem to be going about business in a very professional manner and by doing so will give Wolves the best of opportunities.
We have all had a ‘pop’ at MM for his Sunderland ‘bias’ but so far they have not let us down, so welcome Greg.
Just need to find that elusive centre back that we so desperately need and we are almost done and dusted, so I now await the next announcement which will probably arrive after the OZ adventure!
I agree we need to be brining through the young lads but football is cut throat and we need tobe dealing with the here and now, Little, Gobern and Jones will all prob get Championship loan deals which will bring them on no end, and when we stay up will be in a great position to stake a claim next year. Cardif I am not one to slate my own players but Collins looked out of his peth to often last year let alone in the Prem and Craddock wasn’t quick or good enough last time round, I can only think he is there to bring on the youngsters.
PS we should never have let Davies go but maybe he wanted out when Bolton came in. Keith Andrews is doing well now (over achieving in my opinion lets see how he does this year) but whilst with us he always looked like he was carrying weight and never really fit.
Great !!!
he can launch the ball into the area for craddock 2 score ;)
Please think before you post – leave the emotional outburst for the cat!!
Strength in depth is required for the Prem, another solid signing, provides competition and cover. well done MMM
Report abuse
I’m not a Tesco, i can guarantee that.
Stearman is a Right Back. And more than enough cover.
Did you not see him play there against Germany U21′s? And actually play better than any defender who played against them in the Final?
SQUAD the only word you here week in week out we need one cause in the prem we will be found out if we don’t have strength in depth very good young solid player like surman bags of potential and mick knows how to pick em seb kights foley ect ect I think we must have one of the most underated managers in the country and I think we will shock a few next season carnt wait welldone mm/jm/sm utw.
PEZA-Agree first posting, I second your remark.
24yrs of age, I think he is utility at the back from his play on MOD – he will fit in-Please Foley was our best improved player with his International experience he will improve but we need Experienced rear gaurd players.. Watch this space i think there are more to come–
Getting up to that thirty million..Keep the Faith in this blisterring heat–Crazey dave

One more major signing this week, my advice is Kevin Nolan still talking to Wolves, as is Sol Campbell…now there is a surprise.
Latest info is a very special Chelsea defender will be returning to Wolves on a loan basis, and expect to say farewell to big Chris, Folkes and the announcement of Matt Murray’s retirement.
Watch out also for a Football legend to join Wolves to support Mick, which is being insisted upon by Owner to be employed with Premiership experience.
The present manager is far from impressed
Report abuse
I have always rated this guy, he can also play cb, scores goals aswell. I like the players MM is signing, however your worry must be that the players being signed are all coming from players who have played for teams that have failed in the Prem. That may well be no reflection on the individual players, and maay mean that they have exp of relegation battles, time will tell.

typical negative nonsense from wolvesmod, why dont you just give up and go watch netball or curling!
ive heard good things about this lad so im happy. i have always personnally thought that foley should move into the midfield more often (he plays brilliant there in football manager!) so maybe McCarthy has simalar plans.
There has been a mistake and we haven’t signed Greg Halford at all. Instead we have signed Rob Halford from Judas Priest. The aim being to deafen & disorientate the opposition before they take to the pitch. Tony Iommi is signing tomorrow.
Would be a fantastic squad aquisition! To the doubters… how is adding a versatile right-sided player with great quality (as mentioned above, he was M-O-M against us at the Mol last season) a pointless signing?
I’ve always thought Foley would adapt brilliantly to holding the midfield… IMO this will be a very astute signing by the 3Ms; gives us lots of options both tactically and in the instance of injuries to certain players (who shall not be named for the sake of tempting fate!)… it’s really starting to come together now!

Don’t rate him, we have good cover in Foley & Sterman.
Saw him play in the play off final and was impressed. Regarding wolvesmod and his usual negativity, has anyone ever notice that he is normally one of the first to always comment but rarely comes back with a comment when others start questioning him?…..hmmm me thinks we have an impostor here.
On another subject if MM needs any motivational material next season all he needs to do is post Eamon Dunphy’s article in the dressing room. This guy really is an opinionated prat of the first order and has a history of this sort of thing. Does anyone really take a guy who ghost wrote Roy Keane’s autobiography seriously?
‘Bob Wolf said: Jul 1st, 2009 at 1:19 pm Not sure about this one – a player for the future perhaps, he has the potential to play at the top level but for next year is likely to be a squad player only.
There is still work to be done on bringing in some more experience at centre back and centre midfield.
Another 3-4 players at least are required. At least one has to be from Sunderland under the McCarthy transfer rules.’
Turns out that I was right for all the people who mocked me!! This guy is not good enough!!!
Mick please find someone who doesn’t scout at Sunderland. Another Championship player.

ASTUTE!!

We have signed another squad player, which is great because then we can hopefully avoid the likes of Collins and Ward in the team.
However, we do need another 1-2 Premiership players in addition to Doyle.
These comments regarding signing players from Sunderland are tiresome now. Halford has no connection with the time that MM was there. So what should Wolves do, completely dismiss any player from Sunderland just because of this link?
Im really impressed with the board’s spending and its nice to see we are thinking ahead in the event that players get injured, now its just a case of playing the waiting game with chelsea over mancienne.
Greg halfords throw & Kevin Doyles head will be deadly next season!!!

Absolutely brilliant signing. Thought we should sign him last pre season. Brilliant deadball speicalist and good aerial ability. Also good at getting forward and can play on right wing if kites is injured. Mancienne next and maybe mattock and were sorted.

If you really had genuine information 58 you wouldn’t use terms like “football legend” you would name the bloke!
Also we rejected Sol Campbell agent’s approach because he wanted £80,000 a week, which is suicide for a newly promoted club. Why the sudden U-Turn?
Happy with the Halford signing, a very useful squad player we need backup in all areas and he also provides goal threats from long throws and headers.
Still feel we need 3 or 4 more, we need cover for the wings (Carlos Edwards would do nicely), a CB or 2 (Zubar and Mancienne) and a tough tackling midfielder (A younger Alex Rae).

I am worried that we are signing to many championship style players. decent squad player but is he any better than Stearman ?.
I just hope Mick brings in a quality centeral defender and also a pacey winger.
This is the first signing i think is a bit weird considering we have Stearman who has played recently for the under 21′s. Gives us an option with long throws nearly as long as Rory de Lap. We were promised some premiership experience, i hope we don’t regret this and he’s got someone in the pipeline. Look at the clubs and where they signed there players from and Stoke did the best and nearly all of there players came from premier clubs. They will get my full support though as at least there trying just not sure it’s going to be enough let’s hope i’m just over analysing things.
Hmmm! Cant say I know that much about Halford. What I can say for sure is we need prem experience. All the signing made so far I think are excellent. However, we still need cover on the wings, we still need a midfield general and we need another quality striker to cover SEB and Doyle when one or the other is injured. :-)
Don’t understand the mixed reaction to this signing. He is quality and was on my wish list weeks and weeks ago. Cover and competition at right back and tactical options at right mid-field. Getting close now, maybe just Ledley, Mancienne and a quality, experience centre mid-field. I would also like to see us take a punt on Leroy Lita or Jermaine Beckford……??

Stearman is not a full back – reference Blackpool away!!!
Good signing; he’s versatile, strong, hungry, good in the box and likes to stick in a tackle too.
I think a few more and we should be very solid next year.
One from Stephen Hunt or Chris Brunt (yes I know he comes from Wurzel Gummage Albion, but he had a great end to the season), a Central Midfielder from Huddlestone, Leko, Keith Andrews (who’d do a much better job for us this time around and still likes the club alot) and two Central Defenders from Zubar, Dunne (if not out of range on wages) or Wheater.
We’ve already proven we can beat some of the established teams to signings like Doyle’s so we might be able to get some good experience in. We should also maximise the loan market; later in the window I think there will be some very good Premier players allowed to go and play elsewhere for a year to lighten the wage bill from clubs like Tottenham; that might be the best way to get Huddlestone in if Tottenham can’t find a buyer.
We’ve still got a lot of time; some signings are obviously going to depend on what other clubs can afford to let go based on their own acquisitions.
Come on boys!

3m’s sign some quality for gods sake.
The only thing keeping us of the bottom is hull, burnley & stoke.

Don’t know a lot about this young man so I had a look at the Sunderland Echo.
Here is an extract:
Halford arrived at the Stadium of Light as one of the highest rated players in the Championship.
He always looked accomplished going forward, but became a liability defensively and Roy Keane – who signed him from Colchester – quickly dropped the youngster.
I’m thinking MM would love to get one over Keano.

Absolutely delighted at some of the signings.. but where is the premiership experience ?
Even if just some premier loan signings, but we need some experience at this level.
Hope there’s a couple prem gems in the way.
COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!!

It is a squad game – Even more so in the Prem! I don’t think Mark Little is good enough so this would be a very good signing. Lewis Gobern has been released. Looks like Potter is going to Sheff Wed so we are progressing with incomings and outgoings. It is looking a lot more positive than a week or so ago. Be POSITIVE & Stop moaning!!!
I live in Sheffield and the Blades fans I know are gutted that we could be getting him. They desperately wanted him back at Bramhall Lane.
If it comes off, more good business by MMM.
In Mick we trust!

Great cover to add to the squad but sounds a bit pricey. I recon they’ll be another defender and maybe that Leko bloke. IN MICK WE TRUST! Can’t wait now!

Anyone other than Richard Donkey Dunne.
I’d even take Bramble, if we’re going to be that desperate.

Got Milijas so BOOOOOOOOOO to all the doubters and moaners!!!! Awesome he is going to be a massive player this season, 2.6 Mil a steal and not all paid upfront either so great business.

Work permit in. Great news.
As many people have said it is about squads and this how it probably looks now and will get better -
Hennessey/Hahnemann
Foley/Halford
Stearman/Craddock
Berra/Collins
Elokobi/Hill
Kightly/Surman
Milijas/Jones
Henry/Edwards
Jarvis/Ward
Ebanks-Blake/Keogh
Doyle/Iwelumo
To all the whingers. The second team is almost as good as what we had last time.
A couple more signings and a good season ahead.
UP THE WOLVES!

…that’s why we don’t trumpet things too loudly.” Part of a quote from JM worth taking on board for a few out there. Just because we don’t tell everyman and his dog what we’re doing, doesn’t mean we aren’t actually doing anything!
Relieved that the work permit for Milijas has been granted, should be a strong presence in midfield. The signings are beginning to come through the doors now and I think the only ingredient missing is a bit of premier league ‘nous’ and experience to see us through the difficult patches. A centre back is a necessity however I feel, hopefully Ancelotti deems Mancienne surplus to requirements, but as always ‘In Mick We Trust’.

i have been reading these posts for sometime now, and while i do agree with many of the opinions and comments that seem to come from committed Wolves fans, some of the posts are garbage with name dropping that have been taken at random to stir the readers.
like many of us i was disappointed up until a day or so ago with no significant signings other than a Serb without a work permit, and an aging American goalkeeper as new signings for Wolves.
Then, the announcement of Kevin Doyle lifted my spirits no end, followed by Surman, i am very happy as long as we splash out on some Premiership experience, i would say at least two players, to get the Premiership style of football flowing in the minds of our Wolves players.
We all salute Mick McCarthy for what he has achieved with the team last season in the Championship…i am not sure that he can cope alone given his massive ego, his history, and Premiership experience, and am inclined to agree with someone who wrote that Morgan is arranging back up for him. I for one think this would be a very good move.
The question must be asked ‘Mick was a great manager last season involved in Championship football’
Is Mick going to be as great in the Premiership, a very different scene, I for one have serious doubts.

Another steady signing by the 3 m’s, has come on leaps and bounds in last 12 months with more games under his belt. A mix of experience and youth required a CB so def Mancienne or Taylor and to play alongside the experience and strenght of a campbell or dunne think would be worth a gamble for at least for 1 season, exciting times ahead i hope for the molineux faithful, so come on the wolves lets mix it up with the big boys of the prem…can’t wait!!!

114. you’re right things are starting to look good but it is glaringly obvious that our 2nd choice centre halves are weak for the prem, but I expect that to be taken care of shortly with at least one centre half (Mancienne hopefully) to come in and into 1st eleven.

think youve been phoning a few too many of those sensationalist Premium rate Soccer lines … Your Mum will be none too pleased when she gets the bill
Graet signing … Rock solid investment .. need a few of those to build a decent squad. Its a long season and the January window is always an overinflated trolley dash style scramble
Report abuse
Oh dear.
I really don’t like this guy. He mouthed off about how good the Blades were last season, and how they were better than Wolves. Before Killgallon did. He’s had 5 clubs in 2 years and wasn’t good enough to get in a poor Sunderland team.
I fail to see the point of spending £2m on him !!! If we want backup at right back we have Stearman. Anyone who saw him play against Germany for England last week will know he can play there, and play well. Him and Rodwell were Englands best players that night.
I’m all for adding depth to the squad, but £2m is a decent amount of money for Wolves, and it is surely wasted on a squad player.
Hopefully this will not happen. If it does we will have signed 3 ‘squad’ players and only the Serb and Doyle to actually improve the starting 11.
Come on Wolves lets buy some quality and not just quantity. If we need cover in certain areas then lets get loan players in.
Good signing, Good money too!
The options are there, one or two have already picked up on the Foley in midfield, but like the Surman signing yesterday, he can fill a gap no matter what position he is put in.
Dare I say it, ‘ Good Choice Mick ‘!

i think wolves should sign landon donovan, michael bradley and jozy altidore
donovan can be wolves play maker and can play on the right left centre mid and can even play upfront
michael bradley good defensive mid and is only 20
and altidore only 19 is strong so he can hold up the ball for other players around him and can score goals him self
about 12mill for all 3 good deal i think

Next season is going to be the poorest in the basement for many years,,,just look at who is in there Blues, Burnley, Sunderland, Stoke, Wigan,Bolton, Blackburn?,Portsmouth, and possibly 2 other clubs,,so lets cut out all the negativity and get behind our golden Wolves. With all these new signings and that hunger carried over from last season we may just have a good chance of being top of the bottom ten if things go right and we all play a part of being the 12th man ./………………so come on you WOLVES

He is more likely to provide cover for Kightly than Foley as he can play in midfield and up front! He has been badly managed but he showed his potential at Blades with a solid season and a cracking goal to get Blades into the Playoff final. And we have no cover for Foley as Little is not up to it! And at 6ft5 he has real presence and athleticism! And there’s nought wrong with that!

We’re building for the future and not just for this season, ALL of the players we’ve purchased so far will have a “sell on” value to the club and will also grow together as a team, it’s called future proofing, we’re doing it the right way IMO.
Some of the people on here just moan for the sake of it, your lives must be pretty bad if all you see is the negativity of everything.
Look at the glass being half full for a change.

Halford would be a very good addition to the squad. This guy has been rated highly for some time now but as in the past he seemed set for international honours he has perhaps slipped down a bit. Still another very good player to have on board.
Just waiting for a top class CB now or even two. Mills and Mancienne sounds good to me.

Shame to hear a bid’s been accepted for Keogh. Hope its not true. His attitude is first class. Obviously needs to be sharper in front of goal but he has done well for us. The question now is who else is coming in to replace him? Dangerous to let him go, and maybe Looms as well if nothing’s in the pipeline. He links well with SEB too, so could have kept a place in the squad. Might even have surprised a few with more time on the ball.

133 Fact 1 signing on fees are never more than 10% in normal transfers so that would be about 2 Mil wouldn’t it you Cretin!!!, fact 2. Wages for the majority of the players would be fairly standard and covered by TV revenue, not to mention upturn in merchandising tickets etc.. Fact 3 Think about things before you post. Fact 4 you are a total numpty with a blatant lack of knowledge on the subjext you are ”discussing”
PS 133 not to mention the money we will generate selling players a reported 1.5 for Keogh 1 mil for Potts, a reasonable fee for Gleeson another 2mil poss in a sell on fee if Lescott moves and that won’t be the end of it. At least 5 Mil there. The more I think about your ”comment” the more of a tool you become, go back to your job packing quiches or more likely the jam roll!!!! Don’t waste my time!!!

Still nobody with true and proven premier league experience, we could have signed halford and stearman if we’d stayed down…
mancienne is in the same boat, was awful in the under 21′s, stearman could be better than him, as andrew surman is identical to david jones in positioning, age, ability… it’s all very well but i doubt many other clubs will be running scared at the moment.
he’s gotta fetch somebody from the teams in the top 10, who don’t get a regular starting place that have a real point to prove in the prem, not players that are as blind to it as the current squad.
having said that i’ve crossed everything that the keogh rumours are true and we are FINALLY shipping him out!!
Great Signing if he comes. We must have faith in Mick, Jez & Steve. MM will know what we have to do to avoid the drop from experience, he won’t want that again. Nolan, Mancienne, another Centre Half and another ‘proven’ Goal scorer for variety up front would be good, but failing that……leave it to Mick, how many of the lesser known players he’s brought in so far have not made the mark and helped us back to the promised land? Very few I think you’ll find. KEEP THE FAITH ME BABBIES!!!!
How about a cheeky move for Mica Richards or Onouha at Man City? Will make room for them to buy Lescott and then we’ll get about 15% of his fee which will virtually make them a freebie! Not that we seem to need to save money at the moment…rolling in it!!
Once again we wait with the element of surprise. To think only a few days ago the majority of the posts on here were so negative because we had not signed anyone of substance (apart from a 37yr old goalkeeper) who I believe will be an asset to the club. Now we have KD, AS, NM (now the work permit has been sorted). Halford looks set to sign, Nolan possibly, Owen may have if Alex hadn’t of stepped in with an offer. More surprises for all of us I think next week. On player exodus, I’m sad to Stephen Gleeson go but we wish him well, maybe you will team back up with Incey if he returns to the MK Dons. If we can get 1million+ for Potter it will be good. Should think seriously about terminating D.Ward & J.Shackell contracts………..and please, please, please don’t sell Andy Keogh, I do believe he could be a real asset in the EPL as he will have more time on the ball, faster pace, yes but you can’t doubt his engine it is phenominal. Lastly I would like to cogratulate Jez, Mick & Steve for the intelligent way they have conducted their transfer business. They have stolen a march on a lot of clubs including the Bluenoses by talking early, not a bad effort. Comparing what they (Bluenoses) have bought to our incumbents, theirs now seem to be panic buys. We even forced their hand to up the salary for Scott Dann to go to his second choice & not his preferred choice Wolves. Really looking forward to a fantastic season even this far away in Aussie. I might be able to include a couple of Wolves players in my Fantasy League team this coming season. All the best to all Wolves fans the world over now its turning Black & Gold

Its hard to see how anyone can criticise the signings the club have made. An experienced keeper, an international midfielder in Nemad, an England u-21 in Surman, and a proven goalscorer in Doyle. Shame on some of you so called fans who cant see the positives and always berrate the club. If we clinch Halford then its another signing which will help the squad out, he was great for Sheff Utd last year.
Some people seem to just moan and always pick the negatives out of a situation but all of these signings will add something to the squad next year. We need centre backs thats obvious but ideally we need at least 2 players in every position which we kind of now have…… Why some of you criticise whats happening this summer is beyond me.

I think weve done well so far in the transfer department,I dont think anyone can complain really.5 players already taking our spending to £12mill,witch to me already shows ambition, after today another 2 or 3 players more and i really think were going to grab the bull by the horns, and have a really good season. My aim for wolves as every wolves fan is not to finish in the bottom 3 which to be fair isnt really that hard looking at our squad and fixtures, weve got almost a perfect start and ending to the season, almost every bookie is backing the wolves to stay in the premier league,,,with the adition of a cb,cm/winger i really believe that we will have a very good season and give a lot of teams a suprise, like hull the begining of last season so long as we can keep the momentum going.

Remember that any possible sell on clause with Lescott will relate to the PROFIT Everton make rather than the actual transfer fee itself.

The lescot fee is not related to profit it is based on the whole sell on fee aparently.
