Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Old gold bridge planned for city route
Wednesday 1st July 2009, 11:30AM BST.
An iconic old golden gate bridge stretching across the Ring Road in Wolverhampton could become a reality under ambitious plans unveiled today.
A group of Bridgnorth-based architects has come up with the concept and dubbed it the “Wolves Bridge”, saying it would be ideal for supporters heading to and from Molineux.
They believe the structure would cost between £1million and £2m and funding has yet to be found.
But the firm, Johnson Design Partnership, say they are considering putting in a planning application to Wolverhampton City Council and are keen to know what people think of the idea.
The planned bridge is currently golden-coloured in a reflection of Wolves colours, but this is subject to change as the design is still at the concept phase.
Associate architect Matt Spinks is involved in the design. The 29-year-old lifelong Wolves fan said the idea was for the bridge to seem like it was “floating” across Ring Road St Peter’s.
He said he felt it could offer an alternative for fans making their way to Molineux.
“I always park the other side of the city centre to go to the ground,” he said today. “We just thought Wolverhampton needed something iconic that would put it on the map and help the supporters who can’t get to the subway to cross a busy road safely.
“We are not trying to take people away from using the subway – it could be used to divide home and away fans.”
He said the design had already been put onto Wolves supporter websites and he felt the general consensus had been positive.
Councillor Neville Patten, leader of Wolverhampton City Council, said: “Quite honestly, I think it’s a brilliant idea. It would open up that part of town and make life easier for a lot of Wolves fans.”
Wolves spokesman Matt Grayson said: “We’re always willing to listen to new ideas.”

£1 Million – £2 million for a Bridge!!! Yet dozens of shops are closing in the City, and the council have shelved plans for the New Summer Row development because they havnt got the funding yet, they built erected the totally pointless fountain in Queen Square, (The Fountain isn’t a bad idea if Wolverhampton was a City you enjoyed and was proud to go into!!!)

Looks hideous if you ask me. Im sure I could use the £1-2 Million in a much better way than this pile of tat.

Well done Wolverhampton. I wish Walsall could put a bit of pride into the town by picking up on themes like football colours. In Walsall we can’t have anything in red because it’s seen as political and favouring one particular party (the council oficers must think we’re as stupid as they are). That’s why everything in Walsall has to be the vilest shade of green, brown or purple.
Well, that’s why Wolverhampton is a rising city and Walsall is a dying town.

who thinks these absurd ideas up one to two million yeah more like ten million if and when its finished do these people not realise we are in a recession but i dont think the cost matters council tax payers will cough up by the way could someone tell me what the bridge is for

Why not make it a road bridge and thereby recreate North Street/North Road… This would remove some of the damaging effects of the ring road…. How about doing something similar for Great Brickiln Street and reinstate that route into town? They could be bus only road if necessary (to keep the flat earthers happy)

I think this is a brilliant idea as it allows fans to easily walk to molineux with out crossing dangerous roads. This bridge also looks good with its eligant and contepory design and the colours are perfect as they match the wolves colours, this will definatly put wolverhampton on the map.
