Doyle anxious to prove his worth
Wednesday 1st July 2009, 12:30PM BST.
Record signing Kevin Doyle believes Wolves can achieve a mid-table finish on their Premier League return – as he proves his own top flight quality again.
Having excelled for Reading against the big boys, the new £6.5million signing is convinced the top flight should hold no fears for Mick McCarthy’s Championship winners.
He said: “I’ve no doubt we’ll do very well next season. There’s no reason here why not and no reason why we can’t do very well.
“I can’t wait to be honest. All the players are very excited and really eager to do well.
“They’re all good footballers who want to play good football.”
Doyle’s form suffered as Reading’s challenge for automatic promotion faded in the second half of the season.
Troubled by niggling injuries, he scored just two of his 18 goals in the second half of the campaign.
He said: “There were injuries with the whole team and myself to be honest.
“I had a knee injury and a calf injury, so it wasn’t a great finish for me. But there’s a good few players who could say that at Reading.
“It was a difficult season and we ended up losing out in the play-offs.”
But Doyle’s happy to put the past behind him for a fresh start at Molineux.
He said: ““I just want to look back in three or four years and say this has been a great move. I’ve really enjoyed it.
“I just want to be happy with myself and how I do. I’m not trying to prove anything different.
“If I’m happy with my own performances and I feel I’ve done as well as I can, then that’s all I can do to be honest.
“I just have to work hard and enjoy it. If we work together as a team, I think we’ll do fine.”
