Wolves still cool on Smith move

Tuesday 30th June 2009, 10:00AM BST.

SOCCER Watford 1Wolves remain cool over a move for Watford winger Tommy Smith with a iron-clad move for the player still “open to debate.”

The Hornets claim they have turned down two ‘seven-figure’ bids for the 29-year-old, with Wolves and Reading thought to be in the frame.

While the club have considered a move for the 29-year-old, who played under Wolves boss Mick McCarthy at Sunderland, it is far from a done deal.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “Whether or not we sign that player is open to debate.”

On the other hand, Wolves are refusing to comment at all on speculation linking them with a £1.5million bid for Monaco’s Croatian midfielder Jerko Leko and Marseilles centre-back Ronald Zubar.

They were initially cool on talk linking them with Zubar – who is out of favour with Marseille – but they could turn to him again as targets begin to be whittled down.

Reserve midfielder Stephen Gleeson, 20, is expected to complete his move to League One side MK Dons in the next 24 hours.
