Wolves chairman Steve Morgan today welcomed Kevin Doyle’s arrival as a “statement of intent” by the club to “make their mark on the Premier League.”

The Premier League new-boys have splashed more on the Ireland international than they did on their entire squad the last time they were in the Premier League in 2003-04.

They will take their spending through the £10millionbarrier when midfielder Andrew Surman completes his £1million move, following the arrival of £2.6million Nenad Milijas and free transfer capture Marcus Hahnemann.

Morgan said: “He’s a helluva player and it’s a statement of intent by this football club. I’ve said before that we’re not coming up to the Premier League to be also-rans, we’re coming up to make our mark.

“We have a great squad already and Kevin is a brilliant addition.

“I think between the squad we have, the three signings we’ve made and the one or two more we have in the pipeline, I think people will know we’re there.”

Morgan is convinced Doyle will continue to score goals in the top flight again.

He said: “I’m looking forward to seeing Kevin score a few – sorry, a lot of – goals for us in the Premier League.

“He’s an international player, and a proven goalscorer.

“We already have some good strikers. The prospect of him teaming up with them leaves me thinking there will be quite a few defences who wish they hadn’t come across us.”

Morgan insists Doyle will immediately feel at home at Molineux.

The owner added: “Kevin will drop straight into the Wolves squad, because he’s an enthusiastic player in a squad of really enthusiastic players.”
