Tuncay move unlikely for Villa

Tuesday 30th June 2009, 10:22AM BST.

SOCCER Middlesbrough 3Villa’s hopes of signing Tuncay have receded after it emerged the Middlesbrough star is likely to return to his native Turkey.

Speculation suggests claret and blue boss Martin O’Neill was ready to rival Liverpool for the signature of the £5million-rated attacking midfielder.

But the Express & Star understands that although Villa were one of a number of Premier League clubs offered the talented attacker, he is expected to return to his homeland in a bid to secure a place in the national team’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.

Boro’s relegation to the Championship means they will be forced to cash in on their player of the year, who scored three times against the claret and blues last season.

O’Neill is looking for a replacement for the departed Gareth Barry and the versatile Turk, renowned for his class and work ethic, would have fitted the bill.

Sources close to the club confirmed Villa held a “mild” interest in the player but a return to Fenerbahce, whom he left to join Boro in 2007, or one of Turkey’s other major clubs now looks on the cards.

Tuncay is CAPTAIN of Turkey and is already GUARENTEED a place in the Turkish squad. The only time he has not been in the squad is when he has be injured. Fatih Terim loves him, and won’t drop him. He does NOT need to go back to Fener to get a place in the national team. He wants to stay in England or somewhere else in Europe. He will not be going back to Turkey this season. I know that for a FACT.

Unless DN stands for Fatih Terim then you do not now that for a FACT, but I agree with your comments.

Surely there is no better advert for playing in a world cup than playing in the top league in the world and in a European club competition??? What a crap story.

“The Apprentice Strikes Again”! Yet another lazy piece of journalism from probably the laziest reporter in the world. This so-called ‘LINK’ appeared in a tabloid yesterday.

The guy who ‘reports’ this rubbish has no idea where Bodymoor Heath is and judging by his match reports last season, he hasn’t been to Villa Park many times either. I’ll bet he hasn’t even left the E & S offices this season.

I am getting so fed up with this clown continually linking us with also-rans, relegated players and competitors reserves.

The real business starts tomorrow and I hope Randy is true to his word and has set aside sufficient funds, not only to replace Laursen and Barry, but to buy the 3 or 4 CLASS players we need to force our way past Everton and Arsenal. And I mean class, NOT workers, runners and trackers back, we already have enough of those.

I don’t think Tuncay ever found his way onto O’Neills radar as he doesn’t hit enough of O’Neills buttons ie: Young, Workaholic, Cheap, English and willing to play anywhere, even in goal if required!

From tomorrow, I fully expect a steady string of quality signings including Casillas, Puyol, Veloso, Cannavaro, Van de Vart, Schnieder, Gerrard, Cole, Henry, Messi and Torres.

I expect the rest will arrive after I’ve taken my medication !!!!!!!

This is rediclious article. first and foremost boro would never accept 5million. Gareth has already admitted it would take a bid of between 10-15million if someone wants to take him!
Also like DN said above, Tuncay does not need to leave England to get himself a place in the world cup, he already has it! Tuncay has admitted he wants to stay in England.

and in reply to the comment above, tuncay is relatively young, cheap, has the best work ethic in the premier leauge, willing to play anywhere aswell including goalie! Villa would be lucky to sign a player like Tuncay Sanli but unfortuantly for you he will probably end up signing for Liverpool.

Speaking as a boro season ticket holder I can tell you that :

Well he’s not that young (and not that old either at 26)

He is the very definition of a workaholic

He is probably cheap if anyone signs him for £5m

    He isn’t english

He has played left, right and centre midfield as well as striker for us, and has played in goal for his country.

Not too bad for ticking boxes!

The Bilston Villan, agree with most your comment but Tuncay was one of the hardest working football players for us last season and personnally would like to see him playing for a better club, it pains me to say that, but it’s no less than he deserves.

He plays anywhere, GS could never use him to his full advantage due to the way we play, and the fact that we never had any of the ball! Apparently Steve Gibson has been offering Tuncay for £5m, Alves for £8m or less and he can go and Ali-ad-a-’mare for £2m, to get them of the wagebooks. but becuase of his wages it has put big clubs off, hence the cheap price tag!

Will be following him where ever he goes and hope the fans at his new club appreciate him as much as we did!

    This article is absolute garbage-

He would get more exposure w/ boro next year than in Turkey. Playing the best league in the world helps his WC chances rather than playing in Turkey

Tony 7. Fair Comments and I do actually share your opinion of Tuncay’s work ethic, having seen him score the winner against us at Villa Park and score a blinder against us in the penultimate game.

It’s just that some people on here don’t understand that Irony is NOT the opposite of coppery and that Pathos was NOT one of the musketeers.

My post was merely a dig at our great leader in terms of a total lack of tranfer activity, the ease in which our captain was allowed to leave and the truly bizarre selections of most of Villa’s substitutions last season.

Ah, for a sense of humour and the ability to appreciate wit!
