Surman closer to £1m Wolves move
Tuesday 30th June 2009, 10:05AM BST.
Wolves are set to make Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman their fourth summer signing after having a £1million bid accepted.
Saints are desperate for cash to pay their monthly wage bill after staff and players went without their salaries last week, while a buyer is sought for the club.
Now they are expected to follow the £1million sale of top scorer David McGoldrick to Nottingham Forest with the departure of left-footed wide midfielder Surman for a similar seven-figure fee.
Sources reckon the 22-year-old, who recently became a father for the first time, prefers a move to Molineux rather than Sheffield United, because they can offer Premier League football and are nearer his south coast roots.
The player also knows the West Midlands, having launched his Football League career on loan at Walsall in 2004/05.
