Superfit summer an omen for Bradley

Monday 29th June 2009, 10:40AM BST.

WALSALL FC 17 SL 17Walsall midfielder Mark Bradley hopes the club’s rigorous pre-season regime can give them a headstart over their League One rivals.

The players should be ready to hit the ground running when they report for pre-season training on Thursday, having already completed five ‘fitness maintenance’ days under orders of boss Chris Hutchings.

Bradley revealed it is the first time the Walsall players have completed such a schedule, since they challenged for the play-offs under Richard Money two seasons ago.

The Saddlers’ promotion bid eventually fizzled out on that occasion, but the Wales under-21 star hopes it can be the catalyst for them going one better this time around.

He said: “We have had some maintenance days at the club. We have had to do five days out of the 10 to keep up our fitness. We’ve been training with the youth team.

“We did it once under Richard Money and that was the season we almost reached the play-offs. We are hoping it will give us a headstart and keep everyone clear of injuries.

“I do not set goals but we just want to get off to a good start. Then we can push on towards the play-offs.

“I’m feeling good. It will be good to get back.

“I like to try and keep myself in shape during the close season and the sessions have been really helpful.”

Glad to see that the players will be fit – with our paper thin squad they will each be playing a lot of games!! And can I predict what tomorrow’s E&S Transfer Rumours will say for Walsall, either: Nothing to report from the Banks’s today; or: Saddlers make surprise £50m bid for Eto’o. Bonser: “Get your chequebook out”.

Please, oh please , can we have a bit of a decent piece on Walsall ? its not exactly top secret this pre season training stuff ! Dickie dosh did this a couple of seasons ago , and plenty of other clubs have been doing it for years ! We do understand that theres always very little to report , ie transfer rumours nil , except about “ex Walsall player this , ex Walsall player that , its a nonsense i’d rather you didn’t write anything ! i’m sorry i still have to have a look just on the off chance …. but no , nothing again , oh well you can ask another player tomorrow how well he think’s were going to do with a team full of kids and players that don’t want to be there , or how were just waiting for the right type of player to become available ! why oh why do we keep doing this to ourselves !!
