Charlotte Burford, aged 18, a level three student at South Staffordshire College will compete in Calgary in September.

Her qualification follows success at the recent four-day UK final competition held at Henley-in-Arden.

A presentation was made to Charlotte at the college’s Tamworth Campus, to mark the announcement of the UK finals result.

WorldSkills International was formerly known as the Skill Olympics and has now become accepted as the benchmark for world class levels in vocational training.

Every two years young people and their teachers and trainers, gather from around the globe to compete before the public.

They represent the best of their age group qualifying from regional and national competitions held in 50 countries.

The organisation was founded more than 50 years ago to provide career role models and nurture vocational talent. It is a not-for-profit membership association open to agencies or bodies which have responsibility for promoting vocational education and training in their respective countries.

Charlotte’s lecturer at the Cannock Campus of South Staffordshire College, Jane McNally, said: “Charlotte has developed a skills base across a range of topics, including Galvanic body treatments, full body treatments and Electronic Muscle Stimulation body treatments which make up the level three beauty therapy course and she has both the talent and the determination to win in Calgary.”
