Craddock: My contract joy
Saturday 27th June 2009, 12:11PM BST.
Jody Craddock today signed his new Wolves contract and described it as “one of the biggest achievements of my career”.
Club captain Craddock, who turns 34 next month, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal. The former Sunderland defender, one of only three Wolves players to have played in the Premier League with Dave Jones and Marcus Hahnemann, was fifth choice defender in the spring and he expected to be on his way this summer.
But, after breaking his foot last August, his renaissance in the second half of the season saw him emerge as a key figure in the Championship title success and his form was rewarded by boss Mick McCarthy with a new deal.
“I see this as probably one of the biggest achievements of my career,” said Craddock, whose new contract will take him to seven years’ service at Molineux.
“I’m nearly 34 and so to earn this contract is massive for me.
“I feel very happy and pleased with what I’ve achieved in my career but this is another great new challenge.”
Craddock acknowledged: “There have been a couple of times when people might have wondered whether I’d still be involved at Wolves.
“A couple of seasons ago I went to Stoke on loan and last year I missed a long time through injury.
“Both times I’ve managed to win my place back. I’m just happy to be here fighting for a place.
“It’s going to be tough again and there will be new defenders here, but it’s never been any different. I know what I’m signing up for.”
Craddock, who follows Karl Henry, Kevin Foley and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake in agreeing new deals this summer, feels his experience will be important next season.
“I feel now I’ve got more experience than the previous times I’ve been in the Premier League,” he said.
“But it also becomes harder physically and you have to work that much more to stay at that level. Hopefully I’ll be able to use that experience, especially with some of the fantastic strikers in the Premier League.”
Wolves remain in the hunt for at least one central defender and they have several bids in for targets.

Does anyone know if the corners will be in use next season?
Living in Kent & also being Disabled I don’t get the chance to get to as many games as I would like to,but am looking forward to going to Arsenal, Spurs, Fulham, West Ham & Chelski instead of Charlton Palace QPR & Watford.

Well deserved. Will be ready if and when needed.
Maybe top half of the Prem teams would have released him but deserves this contract..

Top pro! A great player to inspire and lead the younger generation. No3 “wolvesbestfan” – You are a dipstick!

No 3
You’re the joke spelling and comments like that tell me thicko alert!. Well deserved JC, one massive reason why we are where we are now!!

A good signing this. Having Fanny’s experience in the squad will be vital. I still think the back 2 will a combo of Stearman/Berra plus A N Other but he will be a good sub when calm heads are needed. Well done MM/JM/SM now please go sign Joe Ledley and Kevin Doyle and bring in Mancienne and Macheda on loan.

Oh and I forgot to add….no 3 so called best wolves fan……you’re a tool!

Signed as back up only, He was found wanting for pace in the prem 5 years ago so this time around it will be defensive suicide to play him in the prem!

this is actually breaking news on sky sports news, must be a slow day.
Great news. Well done Jody you certainly deserve it.
Is this one of the signings we have been waiting for?
if u are wolves no1 fan there is no hope for the rest of us nothing but negative attitude craddock was massive for us at the end of the season when it mattered there is a vacancy for fikkle fans like yourself with the tesco mob
Report abuse
Don’t go writing him off too soon.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see him starting plenty of games next season.
Its not all about pace. Experience and organisation alongside a younger, quicker centreback….

He turns down Lita, and gives Craddock a new contract. I am nervous, but hopefully Mick knows what he is doing.

12 Thats what I thought – er lets see: 1)Hanneman 2) Ebanks Blake 3)Milijas (does he count as no work permit) and 4)Jody Craddock – Whooo hooo

Solid experienced player, glad he’s with us for the next 12 months. Will help the youngsters in what’s going to be a tough season.
Lol, no money, going for players of poor quality, missing out to B’ham, who are splashing the cash! Do you want to stay up????….this is going to be a very longs season of shame if your club does not wake up!
This is ridicoulous fair enough hes been brilliant at the club but he has to go. He is too old, hecan’t compete in the premier. No way can he. Just shows that MM is a total muppet and doesn’t have a clue about how to take a club into the premier. We might as well give up before we have already started. Morgan get rid of him please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need JC for the new season.
.
We deserved JC.There’s no doubt that his efforts last season provided us with more points than we might have expected. He may be slower than he was, but his experience and influence on yet untried Premier players at Wolves, will be invaluable
Report abuse
just heard we have signed Kevin Nolan Newcastle defender to be announced next week, and that Kevin Doyle is history and will be sining with Sunderland.
Well deserved Jody; we’re going to need your experience next season!
What is all this rubbish about Leroy Lita who is clearly not premiership quality and to me smacks of accepting 2nd class, come Wolves lets have some quick quality signings!
never mind all the chat about transfers am i the only one who saw two wolves flags at Glastonbury in front of the main stage this week and previous years keep the faith
Report abuse
6 – The club has arranged for temporary seating again. This will take the capacity to just under 30k. With regards to the corners being filled in, the clubs first goal is to get the stands much closer to the pitch to intimidate the opposition.
As for transfers the word is they will tie up Zubar this week and also another signing but who knows!
wish we would sign sombody,i fear the worst, thought morgan had 50 million.
21 your the thicko its where not waer also spelling not speling then again no 33 post somebody not sombody
Report abuse
3 and 21 you need to get the Dictionary out.
Well done Jodie and I hope you stay on to give our Young Guns some tips and guidance as a COACH.
Well done also to the Flags at the BOSS gig two Wolves banners showing the way–Keep the Faith…Window opens 1.7.2009.

Mancienne apparently (according to several websites)has been told he can leave permanently. Brendan Rogers has already made a bid for him from Reading, come on wolves get in there. Matt Kilgallon is in talks with us from Sheff Utd and the club are still trying to agree a fee for Joe Ledley. Tommy Smith and Kevin Doyle negotiations ongoing. Dont fear plenty being done.
I don’t see how anyone can argue with this. After the loyalty Jody has shown Wolves, a one-year contract seems like a fair reward – even if he just passes on attitude and experience, and rarely plays. Loyalty works both ways.
PS. If anyone feels the urge to correct (34) collins cant spell – e.g. the inability to distinguish between homophones – then please resist it. I can’t take any more.
